Forget the haters! My wife and her aunt have something similar. If the performance is the same, It's a great deal for less tech-savy uses, like home study, or for media consumption. Windows 10 works just fine once you switch out of S mode. Streaming services work, Zoom works, light browsing works (seen the wife with 10 tabs open in Chrome and Edge just fine). They pay bills, do online shopping, write emails - all that stuff. The kids play Roblox and Minecraft. Wife hooks up to the TV to do her workouts. The specs are all low-end, but it is $150.

So what are the cons? It's not thin, nor light. The camera is hot garbage to me, but the wife uses it for Zoom and hasn't complained yet, so there's that. The screen is ... meh. I mean, our phones have better screens, and I'll bet a $150 phone might as well. At first I was concerned about the 4GB of ram, but honestly, it hasn't been a problem YET. I'm sure, in the future we'll have to revisit this. I would like an ethernet jack, but it's hard to tell because they only use them in the house and we have good wi-fi. If we go on vacation, it might be a different story. Also, 128GB of storage is nothing these days. You will run out fast if you have a lot of media. But this problem isn't exclusive to this particular model, as the majority of laptops are in the same boat. So add the cost of external storage (SD card, external drive, cloud) to the overall price. Finally, the battery life is not good. You'll have to pay more to start getting decent longevity.

I'm telling you guys. Avoid these lower end Lenovo laptops. Already purchased and returned two similar models. RAM is soldered and cannot be upgraded. Even running basic tasks on Windows 10 is hard for these to handle, especially with only 4GB of RAM.

It's both, 4GB memory soldered to systemboard with one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket.
It's not so horrible in such case. 12 gig of ram could make a reasonably smooth browsing experience for a kid to do zoom

Looking at the pictures, no USB-C, right?

11/11 is China's black friday and Lenovo is... yup
fun fact: the online sales event on 11/11 started as "singles day" joke, as single people shops online while couples shops in the mall. Turned out to be a huge sales event in a few years.

This also says there's another slot for storage. 😊 I hope the PDF is accurate, and that these expansion slots are activated features.

Useful if you just need a Zoom machine for your kid's remote learning. Beyond that? Hard pass.

Can this run Metro Exodus on max settings with RTX on while having steam client, Pandora, and 20 different pages of Chrome running in the background?

Lenovo PSREF also says it has this:
"Windows 10 in S mode is a version of Windows 10 that's streamlined for security and performance, while providing a familiar Windows experience. To increase security, it allows only apps from the Microsoft Store, and requires Microsoft Edge for safe browsing."
This could be limiting...

If you hate them, sure this machine would be fine. The annoyance of running Windows with 4 GB will ensure hilarity ensues.

Fwiw, I agree with the earlier poster about Ubuntu. If you are cool with installing a new OS, this would actually be decent. For new Linux users, I highly recommend Linux mint. The cinnamon GDE is really nice and makes the transition from windows easier.

Not a big deal. The first thing you do when you buy a cheap S Mode computer is turn off S Mode and install Chrome.

If this was a Chromebook it would be a good deal. It's definitely worth the price, you could re-sell it for more a week later. But don't buy it for anyone who is a tech snob, performance will be lagging.

I'm guessing no touch screen at this price? Doesn't mention it on the product page, so I am assuming not?

I was wondering the same thing and it appears not to be touchscreen but the price makes me not care it doesn't include it.
