Forget the haters! My wife and her aunt have something similar. If the performance is the same, It's a great deal for less tech-savy uses, like home study, or for media consumption. Windows 10 works just fine once you switch out of S mode. Streaming services work, Zoom works, light browsing works (seen the wife with 10 tabs open in Chrome and Edge just fine). They pay bills, do online shopping, write emails - all that stuff. The kids play Roblox and Minecraft. Wife hooks up to the TV to do her workouts. The specs are all low-end, but it is $150.

So what are the cons? It's not thin, nor light. The camera is hot garbage to me, but the wife uses it for Zoom and hasn't complained yet, so there's that. The screen is ... meh. I mean, our phones have better screens, and I'll bet a $150 phone might as well. At first I was concerned about the 4GB of ram, but honestly, it hasn't been a problem YET. I'm sure, in the future we'll have to revisit this. I would like an ethernet jack, but it's hard to tell because they only use them in the house and we have good wi-fi. If we go on vacation, it might be a different story. Also, 128GB of storage is nothing these days. You will run out fast if you have a lot of media. But this problem isn't exclusive to this particular model, as the majority of laptops are in the same boat. So add the cost of external storage (SD card, external drive, cloud) to the overall price. Finally, the battery life is not good. You'll have to pay more to start getting decent longevity.

I'm telling you guys. Avoid these lower end Lenovo laptops. Already purchased and returned two similar models. RAM is soldered and cannot be upgraded. Even running basic tasks on Windows 10 is hard for these to handle, especially with only 4GB of RAM.

This seems good for the price and what it offers. If you set your expectations it should be fine.

I dunno. $150 is nice, but last year's Motile deal (Ryzen 3, 4GB, 256GB SSD, 14" 1080P screen, IR camera, 2.5lb for $199) looked like much better deal.

I got the one for $129 last year, and it's usable for basic tasks. Edge and IE work smoothly, but firefox is slow. Word, adobe, etc all work ok, though they take a little bit longer to load up.

No 4k ips screen with 144hz? No 2TB PCIE-4 NVME? No 64GB RAM? No 16-core CPU for $150? NO DEAL!

Hard disagree. Chrome OS is actually optimized to work decently with these specs. You cannot say the same about Windows. You're gonna have a lousy experience.

At this price point if you are looking for a light duty PC for glorified web surfing you would be crazy to get this junkbox and not a Chromebook.
Chromebook can't officially play Minecraft though, which is essential for our purchase haha.

I swear there was a comment in this thread asking if this is better than the $119 laptop Best Buy sold last week. I somehow missed that completely, was it a windows laptop?

No you're not. There's some terrible cpu like celeron/amd a6, this one is actually decent.

But it's Cheap!!!

Bad resolution but I am impressed that RAM is upgradable on this model. If it wasn't Lenovo, I would've returned Acer and get this for my son .$350 Acer is overkill for what I want him to do. Online schooling and zoom meetings and minimal time playing Minecraft and Roblox.

Would this be decent for streaming netflix and occasionally accessing microsoft office or Google drive/docs? Wasn't a fan of chromebook's UI so looking into a cheap basic laptop instead
Not sure about Netflix but youtube is fine as long as not 4k or 60fps. At least I could achieve that with my cheap 14w. So far with 14W I am able to edit pic, video editing, google doc/drive without problem using ubuntu-mate 20.04LTS. This one is much more powerful than 14W so if 14W could I don't see why not.
