Is RAM upgradable or you need soldering capabilities?
Existing 4GB is soldered. There is an available SODIMM slot for an additional max 8GB stick (total 12GB).

I would (and will) personally go with that: Crucial 4GB Single DDR4 2400 MT/S (PC4-19200) SR x8 SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - CT4G4SFS824A https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019FRD...RFbXD2JMT8

When do you expect to receive your laptops? Can you please give an update when you are done with memory upgrade.

12gb is overkill for this cpu...but for the price I guess it doesn't matter
true, but its only a couple dollars more. If the kiddos ever want to explore other OS's via Virtual Box, etc, as they are both studying for their CompTIA certs, it might come in handy to allocate.

Just buy the Chromebook. The battery should be much better... You clearly don't have a specific use case for windows, so the OS shouldn't matter.
Thanks for the reply! That's a good point - i'll take a look into the Chromebook.

Since the parts are cheap you might as well. I only need my phone for work, so PC RAM is low on my list.

The Acer 15 I bought for my sibling gets like 14-15hrs on WiFi + low brightness. More than adequate for distance learning.

ChromeOS is the master of efficiency, then again it's really basic.

Why 4GB versus 8GB? Just curious.

Good catch, I tried to google 81WA00B1US but that didn't came up.

Soldered ram. I would value this laptop about $200 tops if not on sale, so you're saving about $50 here.

If you are buying for your kids, chromebook has a lot of limitations, for an example, chromebook can't run lego mindstorm EV3 robotics. But if you are just getting chromebook for email and web surfing, then you will be fine.

Cool, so based on this chart, what SO-DIMM is recommended for this MB, Single or Dual Rank?

From what I've quickly read, Dual Rank is generally preferred

You can get an 8GB (2400 or better) stick on eBay for $27 shipped (plenty of listings). For an extra $10, you might as well get the extra 4gb.

Microcenter also has Crucial 8GB 2666 for $24 if you live near one.
