Forget the haters! My wife and her aunt have something similar. If the performance is the same, It's a great deal for less tech-savy uses, like home study, or for media consumption. Windows 10 works just fine once you switch out of S mode. Streaming services work, Zoom works, light browsing works (seen the wife with 10 tabs open in Chrome and Edge just fine). They pay bills, do online shopping, write emails - all that stuff. The kids play Roblox and Minecraft. Wife hooks up to the TV to do her workouts. The specs are all low-end, but it is $150.

So what are the cons? It's not thin, nor light. The camera is hot garbage to me, but the wife uses it for Zoom and hasn't complained yet, so there's that. The screen is ... meh. I mean, our phones have better screens, and I'll bet a $150 phone might as well. At first I was concerned about the 4GB of ram, but honestly, it hasn't been a problem YET. I'm sure, in the future we'll have to revisit this. I would like an ethernet jack, but it's hard to tell because they only use them in the house and we have good wi-fi. If we go on vacation, it might be a different story. Also, 128GB of storage is nothing these days. You will run out fast if you have a lot of media. But this problem isn't exclusive to this particular model, as the majority of laptops are in the same boat. So add the cost of external storage (SD card, external drive, cloud) to the overall price. Finally, the battery life is not good. You'll have to pay more to start getting decent longevity.

I'm telling you guys. Avoid these lower end Lenovo laptops. Already purchased and returned two similar models. RAM is soldered and cannot be upgraded. Even running basic tasks on Windows 10 is hard for these to handle, especially with only 4GB of RAM.

Honestly, I think this is a steal. *** $149 ** for a basic but decent laptop.

It does the basic activities pretty well. Youtube, surfing, word processing, netflix, etc.

I also like the power cable/plug. It's small and portable.

Throw in another 8gb, and you'll be future proof for a while.

Again, does the basic daily activities really well, especially at $149 !!!

Thank you found it, if you check the pictures the label on the cable says: "NBX0001SX00" very interesting.
If you look at message 14 of this thread,

The poster claimed that NBX0001K210 is equivalent to NBX0001SX00 and works on his 14ARE05.

Can this be dual boot..... windows/ Ubuntu or hackintosh/ windows or hackintosh/ Ubuntu ..... asking for a friend
Well, after starting it up with the included Windows, I decided to install Linux Mint. During the Mint install, it asked if I wanted to keep the Windows install and create a new partition for Mint that would let me choose which OS I wanted at Boot time. Since I was planning on wiping out the Windows partition eventually, I chose to try out the dual boot option and it's working great. It resized my Windows partition.

I specifically bought this laptop to use as a Linux test machine, so I'll be adding 8GB of RAM and I'm hoping I can find the SATA cable so I can install an additional SSD in the empty space since I have a drive lying around.

For those who have this laptop, how is the screen display/resolution?
Actually, my first impression is that the screen is functional, but clearly not a great screen because the viewing angle is very limited to where it looks good. Left or right to the side (not that much) and it gets really dim. Stand up and look at a downward angle and the black and whites invert. Straight on (perpendicular) and it looks OK. I actually think it looks clearest/sharpest at nearly a 45 degree angle with the top pointed away from you, but that is too much of an angle for me. But the price and other features meet my needs, so I'm OK with it. It isn't my main laptop...if it was, I'd spend more.

Sorry I mean it is much better to have the lenovo part number matches the cable sticker number for confirmation, thanks to you for that. Now the NBX0001K210 is equivalent to NBX0001SX000 the poster did say that also reported intel cpu and amd cpu laptop sata ribbon cable were different...I guess as long as it works it is all good.

Well, I hope it is because I just ordered the one he mentioned from AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4...4c4dvoZx8I

I looked at getting the backordered one from Lenovo, but it was $20 after shipping and ETA is late December, so hopefully the one from AliExpress will get here before then and it was only $7. It it doesn't work, I may just invest in a bigger NVMe drive and forget about the SATA drive. Looks like I can get a 500GB NVMe for $80 and I'm sure better deals will come along.

Also, I did take a look at the pictures for the cable listed under the 14IML05 laptop and it appeared to have the same connector as shown in the picture for the AliExpress cable. For $7 I was willing to take the risk, but not for $20.

Thank you! Your pix are very helpful, especially spare memory slot, 2.5" drive & connector location, and the M.2 SSD area.

It looks like one can use the longer M.2 SSD. Do you concur?
you're welcome. I concur. it would be useful when i need more space later, i can just get a larger nvme drive (the 2.5" drive would require maybe $20-30 more just for the cable/cage....lol)

Just got one of these delivered the other day. Considering the price, I have no regrets. Seems to be about what I hoped for: a small, light, cheap laptop that can handle basic stuff like web browsing and document editing. I wanted something to take back and forth to work (most of my day is not spent in front a computer), and most of what I do for work is web based, with a bit of Libre Office. My little old Chromebook was serving in that role, and I'm keeping it, but this Ideapad is snappier and more capable all around, with a better keyboard.

I will definitely add 8gb RAM to this thing, and maybe throw in a bigger SSD at some point, but the puny 128gb drive is actually enough for my needs right now. The screen isn't too bad. If you see this thing again for a similar price, it might be worth considering if you need a basic machine to beat on, something for an elderly person who mainly uses Facebook and looks at funny cat videos, or a kid for school work. It's no gamer but it's a good deal for what it is.

I'm gonna go ahead and bite the bullet. I'm ordering the cable slickkitty found on amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07R7NTLKC

Which is P/N NBX001K200 (even if the photo says -K210)
.... which claims in the listing that its compatible with the NBX001K210 cable
.... which slickkitty has found is functionally equivalent to P/N NBX0001SX000
.... which is the P/N on the product photo of the cable on the Lenovo parts website for the Ideapad 3-14IML05
.....which is supposedly P/N 5C10S30041, which is the cable we THINK we know is the right one. Smilie

Yeah... a leap of faith here. The problem is that there are two cables listed. The -K200 has a photo of the -K210, and the -K210 has a photo of the -K200. Rather than ordering BOTH and knowing I'll have the hassle of at least one return, I've opted to get the one that seems more likely to work, since it claims to be compatible with both. If they send the -K200 and it doesn't work, it'll be easier to get Amazon to cross-ship the right one.

But it's $10 and I should get it Wednesday. Will have time on Friday to play around with it... will let you know what I find.

(PS - If anyone cares, the listing for the cable that says -K210 but that has a -K200 in the photo is https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08LB7KYB2 )

I just tried to cancel and will see if they are able to cancel or if they say it is too late. Funny how the threat of cancelling seems to speed up the processing sometimes.

The two cables in the other post look the same, but since the picture/descriptions are swapped, it's hard to know which one to buy. I'll wait until the other poster updates us before buying one for myself and hopefully AliExpress will have processed the cancellation by then.
