Forget the haters! My wife and her aunt have something similar. If the performance is the same, It's a great deal for less tech-savy uses, like home study, or for media consumption. Windows 10 works just fine once you switch out of S mode. Streaming services work, Zoom works, light browsing works (seen the wife with 10 tabs open in Chrome and Edge just fine). They pay bills, do online shopping, write emails - all that stuff. The kids play Roblox and Minecraft. Wife hooks up to the TV to do her workouts. The specs are all low-end, but it is $150.

So what are the cons? It's not thin, nor light. The camera is hot garbage to me, but the wife uses it for Zoom and hasn't complained yet, so there's that. The screen is ... meh. I mean, our phones have better screens, and I'll bet a $150 phone might as well. At first I was concerned about the 4GB of ram, but honestly, it hasn't been a problem YET. I'm sure, in the future we'll have to revisit this. I would like an ethernet jack, but it's hard to tell because they only use them in the house and we have good wi-fi. If we go on vacation, it might be a different story. Also, 128GB of storage is nothing these days. You will run out fast if you have a lot of media. But this problem isn't exclusive to this particular model, as the majority of laptops are in the same boat. So add the cost of external storage (SD card, external drive, cloud) to the overall price. Finally, the battery life is not good. You'll have to pay more to start getting decent longevity.

I'm telling you guys. Avoid these lower end Lenovo laptops. Already purchased and returned two similar models. RAM is soldered and cannot be upgraded. Even running basic tasks on Windows 10 is hard for these to handle, especially with only 4GB of RAM.

I love the fact that this laptop is so affordable, but by the time you consider $25 for a RAM upgrade, $50 for a larger drive (and possible cable), and $25 for an external webcam that actually works, you're somewhere around $250. Seems to me the Best Buy $299 Lenovo (when on sale) is worth the extra $50 for the better processor, usable camera, and MUCH better screen. That unit has 256/8 which is very usable as-is.

Maybe we will see another alternative as Black Friday approaches. I was having a similar conversation with myself as I am about to place a 3rd Amazon order to upgrade this machine - this time to address the webcam. For some reason I'm really stuck on the crappy camera and it's almost a deal breaker. I totally understand this was $149 and you get what you pay for, but that camera is just a straight up defect. End rant - last post RE camera from me.

Stock (for delivery) is live on website intermittently. If someone want to grab can try.

That is intermittent, which means the stock is really not large (maybe just several each time) so it is out again in a second. Just keep refreshing and try maybe you can make it.

I was just having the same problem where it would let me add to cart, but then when I tried to check out it would say it was out of stock. Clicked OK and it would show up as "1 left" in my cart, but still wouldn't let me check out. Tried it several time with the same result.

Then I tried one last time and I was able to check out, so it looks like I've got a second one coming soon. While the first one is for me (which is why I got the upgrades), the second one will be perfect for my oldest kid (8) who is starting to get interested in Arduino and other stuff that needs a computer to run the dev tools, so this will be the perfect computer for that kind of stuff. He has a Chromebook from the school for school stuff (and can't really be used for much else), so it doesn't matter if he screws this one up...I can always just restore the drive and start over.

That depends on what you use it for. Laptop like this is mainly good for kids and my boy is rocking it without any upgrade. He is already using it for zoom class for the last few days without any problem. He imported all his past lego mindstorm ev3 projects and ran a few test. So much faster than his old laptop. Installed a few software on it and the drive is still less than half full. He didn't even complain about the webcam because it is pretty much the same quality as his old laptop. Oh! and I only pay $134 for it. I will think about adding a usb cam for him or just use his android tablet cam by installing droidcam.

I guess it all depends on what your primary use cases will be and which features are most important. For myself, comparing my final $250 system with the $299 Best Buy option, I get more memory (12 vs 8) and more storage (500 vs 256) for about $235. While the screen and web cam are inferior, for my use, they are good enough (or irrelevant). If I got the $299 option, I'd almost definitely want to upgrade the 256GB of storage to 500...so then I'd be spending another $50-$60 on top of the $299.

However, for anyone considering this as their primary system, I'd only recommend getting it if you are on a REALLY tight budget and can live with the compromises. Otherwise, I'd agree with spending $299 to get the much better screen and storage/memory that is probably more than adequate for most people.

How did you only have to pay $134 instead of the $149?

Hmm, not sure. I've only run the battery down through a couple of cycles so far, and I got more like 4.5 hours of general use. That's a lot less than my Chromebook but way longer than my big old i7 Msi, so I'm happy with it. A slightly larger (physically larger) battery may fit but I have no clue about sourcing one, what connector is needed, or anything else pertaining to that.
Another plus I didn't mention before: no heat. The fan is quiet, I've rarely noticed it running at all, and the chasis has never even felt warm. Heat per se doesn't bother me, but I've often been annoyed by fans running constantly or spooling up frequently with other laptops.
Maybe I should just look at it as a general usage kind of battery life instead of continuously looping 1080p video. Battery life when using it for zoom class and school work definitely last a lot longer.

If you keep trying I think you have a good chance of getting one. I'm not sure if signing up for notifications will help at all (maybe under more than one email account?), but it can't hurt. But the best bet is to just keep a browser window open and periodically refresh until it is clear there is no more stock, and then try again later. Good luck!!!

Instead doing all the upgrades, maybe going for the $249 HP i3 directly?

I don't understand how people are trying to pimp out this cheap $150 starter laptop. This type of laptop is a perfect starter laptop for little kids or for anyone who want to use it purely as a second computer aside from their primary one. At the end, the CPU is bad and it won't even handle most of what we do or use it for. This at the very best is a backup computer or a starter computer.

Even if you are cheap on the initial price, but are willing to make upgrades later, there's always financing options or just straight up by a slighter high end one. And I'm not talking about $1,000 ones, but $300-500 range and trust me, there are plenty of those options with great CPU, RAM, webcam, etc.

It's like trying to pimp out your newly bought base honda civic with you switching out the LEDs headlights, add a spoiler, switch out rims, add in sport seats, etc. At the end, it's still a honda civic. It's still going to be a basic engine that gives you subpar performance. Just buy a better car.

I hope no one takes offense by this post. I just hope people aren't going to treat this computer as like the computer they are going to use for the next 3-5 years.
