It's my understand that to get true 5G service you need to be in the "Line of Sight" of a 5G signal.
Not exactly. 5G is generally bucketed in 3 groups (low, mid and high band). The high band, or mmWave is the fastest, but is, as you mentioned, short range and easily "blocked by objects. However, the other bands are generally more usable (although not as fast). Since this is an ATT thread, AT&T has a decent amount of low-band (which as of how it is implemented now, mostly only has small advantages over 4g), some high band, and no mid-band. They've made a big investment in high band, and it seems starting to make some in mid-band as well, so you over the coming year or two, a 5G phone should offer benefits even wtihout accessing mmWave. Personally, I'm not sure that is a good enough reason for a new phone, but everyone has their own choices to make.

If I transfer 4 lines, is there an eligible unlimited family monthly plan for 4 lines that cumulatively comes out cheaper than 75/month X 4 (for 4 lines)? Thanks.
AT&T website is showing $160/mo + taxes & fees for 4 lines or $40/mo per line for the Unlimited Extra.

I believe you can do the same deal with A T & T directly, and you won't have to deal with the stress and worry of mailing the trade in phone. You just don't get the Costco gift card... Or am I missing something?

Good point. But I think those with military, corporate discounts and similar plans would have that waived. For me not having to deal with the worry of having the trade in subsequently denied for whatever reason after it is mailed in, it is worth the $30. Plus not everyone has a Costco account. Additionally there may be more phone options at the A T and T store...

Also, if you have the Costco Visa card and use it during checkout you get a 2 year warranty.

Don't you have to mail the trade-in phone also when signing up online? Am I wrong?
Honestly I did not even take into account the mail in option when dealing with A T & T directly. There is a store a couple of blocks from me....
