I just purchased this water heater, normally $1299, for $799 + tax + $75 shipping.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rheem.../312742081

Steps to get deal:
1) Go to above link
2) Change store to zip code 15010(Edit: use Zip 97322 for $699 instead of $799)
3) Select Ship to Home (unless you happen to live close to this store), add to cart.
4) Check out.

Additional notes:
1) Federal tax credit of $300. State tax credits vary, in my home state we get an additional $400 (bringing this heater down to $99 + $75 shipping + tax).
2) For many/most, the $75 shipping is worth it even if you can get this price locally as these heaters are quite heavy and supposedly must be transported vertically.
3) Do your homework on these hybrid heaters before purchasing. You need 220V to operate. Installation expense is generally much higher with hybrid electric vs standard electric resistance heaters and gas heaters. Hot water recovery is very slow (but you can switch to standard electric mode for rapid recovery when you know your usage will be high, e.g. having company over). They can apparently be loud, so if this will be located close to a bedroom, important to think about. There are important climate and installation location factors to consider--just google.
4) The newest generation of this series from Rheem, called "Proterra" can be had for $1269, a slight discount compared to full price (15% for my location). After carefully examining specs, photos, etc - it seems that the only difference with the Proterra series is built-in leak detection with auto-shutoff. FYI if that feature is important to you, you can add it for $219:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rheem...513?NCNI-5
5) This is for 50 gallon. Looks like if you need 65 gal or 80 gal, the Proterra is actually on sale (whereas the Performance Platinum is full price), making the Proterra cheaper.

Too many variables...each situation is different (tank location, energy costs, water usage, etc.). My suggestion is to read the questions/comments section on the Home Depot product website and do your own research.
I've been researching for the past hour, it seems like a no brainer. I shouldn't hear it depending on how loud it is (laundry room). One of those buy now, think later imo.
Thanks honest!

I'm able to add it to the cart at the $699 price but when I get to the checkout / payment page the price resets to my local store's price (I've selected ship to home and not scheduled delivery). What might I be doing wrong? Is this dead?

I currently have a 50 gal electric water heater. Will it be compatible and easy to instal (by a contractor of course). Dont want to order it, get it here and realize it wont work for our setup
Yes, your current heater should be 30 amp 240v. This will use the existing wiring. The only thing extra you'll need is a place for the condensate drip. Most utility rooms have a floor drain so that shouldn't be an issue.

I assume replacing a Gas heater with this would cost a lot of money (depending on other factors) since this unit is electric?
This unit is cheaper to run than a tanked NG heater. Honestly, it wouldn't cost that much to run a 10/3 wire to this unit either. If you ran the wire and just called an electrician to hook it up I'm sure they'd be able to finish in under an hour.

i dont know much about water heaters but i have indirect fired water heater connected to my boiler. Was interested in going with electric one. Can i switch to this one instead?
Technically you could have a setup where your indirect feeds this unit with hot water when you are running your heat. However, I assume your boiler turns on even during the cooling months just to warm up your hot water. With that said you'd need to wire/program the boiler to only turn on during a heating call. Or just stop using your indirect water heater all together. This unit is very efficient.

I think a lot of people are missing the point on gas being cheaper than electricity.

While true, this unit will still cost 1/3 to a 1/4 to operate EVEN WITH the disparity in costs. The energy factor on these is 3.75-4 vs .9-.95 for gas.

While every situation is different, there is a very good chance you will save $$$ with these over their lifetime. I'm switching from gas to electric, DIY, considering a gas WH is similar in price, I should break even after just 1 year!

I installed one in Erie, PA. It still worked great! It does produce cold air year around so if feasible you could vent the cold air to the outside during cold months. Although, mine just vented into my 2400 sq ft basement. I feel that it's affect on my basement/furnace was negligible.

It would fit but I would have to add duct work to another room as they require at least 700 sq-ft of space for the heat pump to work effectively.
Its cubic ft. You probably know that, but others might not.

If operating cost is your only criteria, then most people will save a little more money going with the HPWH. The problem is that most people balance cost vs other criteria, such as:
1) Recovery - Generally gas (tanks) recover much faster than HPWHs, unless you switch to a more energy intensive setting (the Rheem has four settings: HP only, Energy Saver, High Demand, and Electric). Of course, your operating costs increase once you leave the HP only mode.
2) Noise - Generally, HP water heaters make more noise than a standard gas water heater (although some gas water heaters require a fan for exhaust gas, making this less of an advantage.
3) Simplicity - A HPWH has a small heat pump sitting on top of the tank...lots to go wrong. Not really sure who will repair mine if something goes wrong....a plumber or an HVAC tech. My HPWH is located in a vacation home in the mountains...i doubt if most technicians have ever seen this kind of WH before, let alone worked on one. A gas tank's design is tried and true for decades...any plumber can work on them.
4) Local Climate - Depending on installation location, HPWHs generally do best in warmer climates. They will work up north in a condtioned space, but they will add cool air to the room which you will have to heat (in the winter).
I currently use both types in my houses, but came to different decisions based on the issues above as well as others.

Thumbs way up! I'm about to start building a new house and had been waiting for this to go on sale. It's not the exact one but for $500 off I'll take it. I also used a moving code that seems to pop-up when I go to Home Depot. Let me know if anyone else has luck with it below.

HD 15% off code: MOV5QPZ87YT67

I believe it's cubic feet, not square feet for the requirement. You should be fine. They just don't want you putting it in a closet without venting.
