I just purchased this water heater, normally $1299, for $799 + tax + $75 shipping.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rheem.../312742081

Steps to get deal:
1) Go to above link
2) Change store to zip code 15010(Edit: use Zip 97322 for $699 instead of $799)
3) Select Ship to Home (unless you happen to live close to this store), add to cart.
4) Check out.

Additional notes:
1) Federal tax credit of $300. State tax credits vary, in my home state we get an additional $400 (bringing this heater down to $99 + $75 shipping + tax).
2) For many/most, the $75 shipping is worth it even if you can get this price locally as these heaters are quite heavy and supposedly must be transported vertically.
3) Do your homework on these hybrid heaters before purchasing. You need 220V to operate. Installation expense is generally much higher with hybrid electric vs standard electric resistance heaters and gas heaters. Hot water recovery is very slow (but you can switch to standard electric mode for rapid recovery when you know your usage will be high, e.g. having company over). They can apparently be loud, so if this will be located close to a bedroom, important to think about. There are important climate and installation location factors to consider--just google.
4) The newest generation of this series from Rheem, called "Proterra" can be had for $1269, a slight discount compared to full price (15% for my location). After carefully examining specs, photos, etc - it seems that the only difference with the Proterra series is built-in leak detection with auto-shutoff. FYI if that feature is important to you, you can add it for $219:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rheem...513?NCNI-5
5) This is for 50 gallon. Looks like if you need 65 gal or 80 gal, the Proterra is actually on sale (whereas the Performance Platinum is full price), making the Proterra cheaper.

I personally would never by a Rheem, they don't stand by their warranty.

I called Rheem, they said the difference between the Proterra model and the Performance Plat model is just the auto shut off valve and the leak detection. This could be added later with Item #SP21111. The hybrid does cool the area it is in. I am asking if anyone has experience with it. My garage gets HOT. Any cooling would help greatly.

So, if anyone can shine a light on the cooling factor, please do so.

Thanks.
Cooling effect is noticeable if not significant depending on how water usage. I have an 80 gal since August. In PNW or other cold climates if you keep it in a garage then you may notice odd behavior during colder days and a very cold garage as the heat pump takes what ever hear it can from the air and/or fails to operate below about 45F. In the summer heat it's wonderful to condition the space. Recovery is longer than you would expect so I upsized from 50->80 due to a soaking tub install.

I don't know about another comment that says that they can't get two showers out of an 80, that is not my experience. When first installing/testing I was able to fill and dump the tub twice without running out of hot supply. Note the app is pretty bad and the"hot water available" gage is completely wrong. It will show 1/3 is gone after about 3 gallons had left the tub spout.

Just saw this, I have been shopping for a replacement for the GE I bought years ago.
Worked like a charm, thank you very much.

Check your electric supplier as well. EverSource in CT is still running the instant credit on these. $750 for 50 gallons and $400 for over 55 gallon. There are little stickers in the stores on the shelves near these that you text for the code to use. I wonder what they will cost after the credit, I can't imagine the cost to go below zero and you get a credit.

Either way I Installed one of these back I July, replacing a 14 year old 80 gallon State Heater. Never had any issues with demand and install is a pretty simple DIY. It is louder, sort of like a small air conditioner running inside, but not annoying. Note if you don't properly balance these they will get a weird rattle sound in the fan, due to it being off balance.

Also worth noting you need to drain the condensation on this, into either a drain or a condensation dump, just like a air conditioner.

All in all good unit, saves a lot compared to my last unit. I have it pegged at $50 less a month.

Standard electric water heaters have the outlet water coming from the top of the unit. This one has them coming from the side, so your existing lines will need to be extended with SS braided flexible lines with appropriate fittings.
You'll also need to add a condensate line for the heat pump (hybrid part) to drain, it's essentially a small air conditioner that's on top of a traditional electric water heater. I installed one in my attic (from a natural gas model). It is great! Best purchase in a while. You feel like you're not only replacing a similar type unit to go with something "new", but you're also purchasing next-generation technology for about the same price!

We have one of these. I love it. this is a great price too. very cheap to operate on any of the modes that uses the heat exchanger, and produces plenty of hot water on "high performance" mode. The eco mode that turns off the elements is crazy cheap, but isn't good for 2 simultaneous showers + 1 after, so isn't good when guests are here. So I mostly just leave it on high performance mode and it's still cheap to operate.

No. They left it in front of my garage door, never rang the doorbell and ran away. I only knew it was there because I kept refreshing the JWL page with my tracking code. Home Depot website never told me either.

This thing weighs about 193lbs. I am lucky and have a rear door into my basement and had a buddy help me position it close to where it will need to go. The box slides relatively well on most surfaces using the twist method.

I don't know how I would have gotten it downstairs...I guess be very careful and slide it down one step at a time. Prob will need two average-fit people to maneuver it down.

1) I bought one of the flexible drip pans...just walked the tank onto it and it returns to original shape.
2) I took the old tank via pickup truck to local recycle center.
I will look for this flexible drip pan and most likely return the everbilt one I got. Thanks!

Just wanted to thank you for such an informative post. I wish they were all done so well.

I've been wanting a hybrid model to save some money but have 5 kids living at home. We'd need the 80 gallon obviously but it sounds like I'd end up leaving it in electric mode for rapid recovery anyway which would defeat the purpose. I need to look into it more.
