The catch here is the poor quality plastic chassis that HP Pavilions have had for over 20 years.

They are plastics all right but that does not mean they are poor quality. Over the years, HP and other manufacturers have done good work with their budget series Laptops and the 2019 and 2020 models of HP pavilion series has good build quality. The Plastic build is rigid with minimum display lid and keyboard flex and overall uniform. For this price, this is a very good deal in my opinion.
Just check some reviews of some Pavilion models in Notebookcheck.net or in other sites and you will understand what I am talking about.

It will play but not with full setting. If you are planning to buy a laptop for gaming then there are plenty of good deal available from $450 to $600 range with powerful processor and GTX 1650 r GTX 1650 Ti Graphics card. While those two cards not very powerful dedicated card, they are far superior than Intel Iris XE graphics in Tiger lake 11th Gen CPU and will provide you way better gaming experience.

Would you mind sharing those good deal laptops in the 450 to 600 range? Not trying to make you do work for me. Just not exactly sure what laptops you are referring to.

Minor gripe, 3.2lb seems a bit on heavy side for 14" laptop that doesn't have a touchscreen.
