R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

Anyone having issues porting number from Tello? Cricket keeps canceling my orders because they are 'unable to verify the information I provided'. I'm on my 3rd attempt. Tello account number has a string of 6 digits and PIN set to 0000 or 000000. I have used 0000 as my pin. Anyone having issues?

I didn't see anything in the small print asking the phone be activated or have service. All they say is for:

It turns on and functions normally
All the buttons work
The cameras work
The body is free of dents and scratches
The touchscreen and back glass are undamaged

Cricket iPhones are considered as financed for the first 6 mos. There is some iPhone status that indicates that based on IMEI so it would be kind of trading a financed device imho. Someone should email Apple if the plan is to trade in

I ordered 2 phones. First number was Tello. 6 digit account number and 0000 as PIN. No issues at all. 2nd one was Tracfone. I had to make a couple phone calls to get that one ported.
