For those who are only interested in getting a good chef's knife, here is a Zwilling® Pro 7-Inch Chef's Knife at Bed Bath and Beyond for $59.99. If you have a $15 off $50 coupon or 20% off single item coupon, you can get it for $44.99 or $47.99 + tax. Shipping is free on $39+ purchases.

Zwilling® Pro is a step up from Four-Star. Because it has half bolster, the 7-inch chef's knife has the entire 7 inches of cutting edge while the 8-inch Four-Star chef's knife has 7.5 inches or less cutting edge due to its full bolster. Not everyone is a fan of full bolster especially if you sharpen your knives yourself. Pro has full tang while Four-star has 3/4 tang. I also own this Zwilling® Pro 7-inch chef's knife.

Thanks ordered the pro chef knife and pairing knife with couple of 15 off 50 coupons. Planning to cancel my four star set order.
First off, I thought I'd prefer Japanese knives. After owning several fancy ones, they are simply too lightweight and dainty (I'm not a huge guy, 5'11" 190 lbs).
Henckels knives are amazing, and this is a great deal on a reasonably sized set (as others have stated, these sets are often just a way to sell a bunch of knives you don't need).
That said, I'd HIGHLY recommend trying the 10" chef's knife. It's absolutely amazing. Combine it's razor edge with it's weight, and the blade practically falls through whatever it's cutting. Also, the larger surface of the blade is great for scooping up whatever you've just cut.
Honestly, having used the 10" and the 8" and the Henckels santoku, the 10" is all I'd ever need. I don't ever reach for the others unless the 10" is dirty. Most retail locations will let you demo these knives. Do yourself a favor and try the 10" chef's knife!
After owning both for over a decade now, I can say the difference long term is dramatic. When I first got a few of the knives from this same exact line a couple years back, I felt stupid for buying Cutco. It wasnt until I was putting it through the same exact tasks as the Cutco that I realized how vastly better the Cutco knives are. They are far more balanced, the grip beats basically everybody (some do look nicer with the grip for sure but actual comfort, its unbeatable) and most important, very high grade steel.
If you dont cook constantly or you dont mind having your knives sharpened 4x more frequently compared to brands like Cutco, then yes this is probably a really great deal. Cutco is always the underdog with popularity. People who care more about showing off to friends/family or just going by looks/deals will probably not go with Cutco but if you are purely after whats best for Western style knives, I absolutely think they rank near the top. I know it doesnt say that much but they've even been official gifts from previous US presidents both Republican and Democrat to foreign heads of state. Pretty sure they arent going to give them junk.
Anyways, thats my thoughts. I'm also a firm believer in NOT getting the best for everything under the sun but instead getting high quality for the things I use most. Knives are one of those.
As to the block versus magnet question, a block will not damage your knives unless you are losing them wrong. If you wash the knives before putting them away, there should be nasties inside and they are angled so dust won't typically style into the slots which you can rinse with water.. I've used a magnet bar and a knife tray but went back to a block after my kids were able to reach the drawer.
In summary, I ended up with the $160 7-PC set + $55 worth of items + $50 BBB rewards by using $160 Discover cashback and ~$20 for tax.
