These are always going to be better than a sound bar in my opinion. This will give you full 5.1 surround sound. A sound bar is only directly facing you.
I would definitely recommend it. I've been enjoying the Onkyo system in my media room quarantine style.

Have an Onkyo 6.1 speaker set I bought way back in 2003. They still sound great!

Says 449 for me. I think the company is in limbo and not doing any warranty work. Not sure about third party warranties and how they work.

I replaced my 5.1 system with a modern sound bar with Atmos and the sound bar is actually much better for my room.

Getting a 4K TV soon, should I go for this set? Was looking at the Bose 300 soundbar as well.
Personally I'd go with the Onkyo over the sound bar. I have both Onkyo 5.1 & 7.1 systems that sound really good.

The page says it can process atmos and DTS X as 3.1.2....does anyone know if additional speakers can be added to this receiver to make it 5.1.2?

Yep. I'd be leary after reading this:

Is there anything remotely in this range with wireless rear speakers? Or maybe some sort of wireless bridge that would let you use these speakers?

Had the Onkyo version of this from a few years ago. The receiver has been great, but the speakers were cheep feeling..and had a really hollow sound, no mattery how I tried to adjust them they just did not sound right. The sub was great though. I ended up using some sony speakers I had from a previous system with it and they sound great with it. Maybe they've upped the quality of the speakers now, but for me that was the only bad part of it.

Onkyo has always provided some great sounding and affordable sound systems. Lots of bang for your buck here, because let's be honest...not everyone can afford $1000-5000 in speakers alone for a home theater system.
