Been scouring reddit for a clear answer on the possibility of canceling a paid line after getting the free ones. The fine print contradicts itself, but the most consistant info appearing in my search is:

"Maintain rate plan and lines for 12 months to keep free line(s) . After the 12 months, cancel paid line without affecting free line(s)."

Anyone know for sure?

I believe you can switch the paid lines over to the free ones after a year, but you must maintain at least two paid lines.

have a 3rd line free from 2 years ago. Can I get another?LMAO
We carry 3 paid voice/data lines, 2 watches, 1 tablet data, and had 2 free voice/data when I called for the Free Line Promo a few months ago ..... at that time, the Rep told us we are capped at 4 free lines.

Anyone else, capped at 4?

I guess you can cancel 2 paid lines after 1 year with this free line
Older free line on us gets canceled with any line removals so the paid lines need to be kept.

Not complaining, have 10 lines including taxes and fees for $80/mo. This would make my 11th.

Good to see that some others corroborate this idea. I have no issue waiting until next December to convert two paid lines to free ones (also got the November one).

When the time comes, Is there a more efficient way than porting out to another carrier and then porting back in?

The $100 port in offer expired, and Costco's $200 BYOD is expiring today. So I guess there's no deal we can stack with this free line offer this time around? (Not saying the free line offer isn't good enough, just want to maximize the deals!)

Big YMMV...but...the last time this deal appeared (end of Nov?) it was stated that the free line did not stack with any "get an iPhone for $xx when you add a line" deal. This turned out NOT to be true. I remembered that the free line promo earlier in July allowed you to take advantage of an iPhone SE "add a line" offer with the free line, so I thought why not try? I contacted T-Mobile by chat/messaging using the T-Mobile app. Be patient, I had to wait like 30 minutes for them to reply. I purposely made contact through chat so that I could screenshot the entire conversation if anything went sideways later.

First, I asked the rep to confirm that I was eligible for the free line deal. Rep pulled up my account and said yes (I had existing lines with T-Mobile One plan). I then asked what was the best current deal for trading in an iPhone XS. Two offers were presented:

Offer #1: "We have Buy one iPhone, get one on us! For a limited time in all markets, get up to $730 off when you buy two new Apple iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max phones (credit toward equal or lesser value device, via monthly Recurring Device Credits (RDC)) when you purchase both on EIP and active a new voice line on a qualifying rate plan (new customers must activate 2 new voice lines). This offer will appear on the customer's bill as "2020 Apple Buy 2 P11."

Offer #2: "Get an iPhone 12 Pro Max for $5/month. For a limited time in all markets, get up to $950 off a new Apple iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max (via monthly Recurring Device Credits RDC)*) when you purchase it on EIP, trade in a qualifying Apple iPhone, and activate a new line of qualifying voice service. This offer appears on the customer's bill as "2020 Apple Trade P27".

I specifically asked...multiple times...if I took advantage of these "add a line" offers, would it be a paid line or free line. Each time the rep confirmed that it would be free because I was eligible for the free line promo which could be combined with these offers. So I took offer #2, since it seemed to be the better deal and I only needed one phone.

When the order activity posted in my account, I could see that the new line was indeed free. When I received my first bill after the order was fulfilled, the additional line was free and I received all bill credits as described by the rep. Needless to say, I'm a very happy customer with T-Mo!

Which old free line on us gets cancelled with any line removals? TIA!

Hmm what's the plan code for the T-Mobile one 9-12 ?
Agreed. Everytime I move to a better t-mobile plan, I end up paying more because they upgrade me to the latest cost in the current plan which is more expensive. Once you upgrade, you can never move back whatever they say. I am on magneta now 3 paid, 2 free and it cost me more than the old t-mobile one by $15/month and 2 months to get there.

I have the T-Mobile ONE Military plan. The SOC is TMSERVE2. It was not available for this promotion the other times it was offered.
Were you able to get it to work with other promotions?

Be sure to download DreamLab and just let it go if you have any phones that aren't being used for anything.

It uses your phone's CPU to run calculations for cures for everything from cancer to Covid.

Works on iPhone and Android

I did this today without seeing this thread. I am on the 55 plus plan and have never tried to add a line because they seem to be excluded, but was able to add a free line and she also gave me a One Plus 5g for free also. I had to pay 10.00 sim card and taxes for the phone.
I haven't done any of these promos before and question the charges that I saw on the receipt but she assured me that the promotional credits would kick in on the first bill and I wouldn't be charged for the line or the phone.
Nope, you were taken by the agent. All promo plans such 55+, Military, etc. are never included on these free line offers.
Learned the hard way about three years ago when the agent assured me oh yeah you're qualified. Two months later I had to call and have them reverse all charges because they never gave me the credit and told me promo plans are never included.
