Usually you cannot reuse an activated SIM - but easy solution: Almost all TMobile stores will exchange it for a new one free.
Right now, I have a line on my account that will end up coming back to me. It's a paid line but they want to move to another account's free line. So I have to maintain that paid line until after a year so I get to keep all of my free lines. The catch is that they live in a different state, so can I get T-Mobile to issue me a new one over the phone/chat for free? I can't go into the store since I don't have the existing sim with me. I guess I could just have them mail it to me, but was thinking about something easier.

I had just added the free line 2 days ago. If I were to have t-mobile cancel it, then go to Costco to add it with the free one, would the new line still qualify for the free line promo. Does anyone have experience? Could always use a free phone for the kids to play with and $100 in the pocket would be nice too.

Assuming you are an account holder. Its easy and can be done yourself online
Goto Account->{select line} -> Change SIM (you have to have a different existing or new one sim card ready for that)

Yeah, when we received our new phones we used the sims that came in the new phones and the old sims deactivated. The phone I plan on activating on the new line still has that sim in it from when we switched. If I add the new free line online is there a way to do it without them sending me a new sim for $10? Then just go and exchange the old sim for a new one in store.

For the paid line that "they want to move to another account's free line", are they just going to give up the phone number they're using i.e. the phone number stays with your account? If that's the case, just get a new sim card yourself and move that line to the new sim card as HilariousTree881 instructed.

If they intend to move that phone number to another T-Mobile account, you're going to do some gymnastics to somehow keep your existing paid line and get another phone number assigned to it. Definitely report back how successful this ends up going as moving a phone number out and keeping the line active with a newly assigned number seems like a pretty rare event that happens successfully only if all the stars align.

For now, the plan is they will give up the phone number. I'll check on the post you mentioned. Was hoping to save myself $10. I see that you can do it online but I just used my last sim last week.

I was told the T-Mobile SIM cards are no longer active after 60 days as I tried to active the SIM out of my test drive unit. Thankfully my friend's parents just upgraded to new phones last week and before they ship them back to Apple they will pull the sim cards.

As I said it needs some time and the right reps to make it happen as I struggled with reps in the past to switch to a different T-Mobile One plan.
Good luck!

Edit:
Summary of the process and overview of changes:
https://slickdeals.net/f/14713250-t-mobile-customers-add-a-line-for-free-starting-december-20th?p=144039584#post144039584
I know I should've dealt with this last week, but I had too much going on. I finally got back to this and just saw the free line promo ends on 12/31. I spent an hour reading your links and Googling about doing what you said: changing from FRLTUL2LP to FRLTULF2. It sounds very YMMV because I have to get the right rep or they'll screw it up and I'll end up losing my old plan and not getting the FRLTULF2 for $20 more. The only reason I'm considering this is the prospect of another free line and it would save me on Netflix each month which makes up for most of the extra $20.

Two things I didn't see an answer about FRLTULF2:
- Does it include all taxes so it's exactly $120 (or $100 with 2 kickbacks) which is $20 more than FRTUL2LP?
- I see $10.99 and then $13.99 Netflix standard plan mentioned in some search results. Does T-Mobile cover $10.99 or $13.99 now + tax? (Netflix just raised it to $13.99 + tax.)

I called 611 and was told I'd get a call back in 2-3 hours. I read many people say contact "T-Force" instead. I had no clue what T-Force is so I finally figured out it's contacting T-Mobile via chat on Facebook or Twitter. I don't use either, but I have an ancient FB account so I tried that. I typed in a message and got a brief automated reply from T-Mobile. I assume they are backed up hours there as well which is why it Facebook chat isn't working.

I expect nobody at T-Mobile will respond before the promo is over, and maybe it all can't be done correctly in a single day. I also fear if I reach a rep who claims he/she can do it correctly that I will end up losing my prior plan, not getting the correct new plan and free extra line, and end up in a worse situation than before.

Honestly I wish there were a middle-man I could hire for $50 to take care of all this rigamarole with T-Mobile and get me the right plan. Some of you T-Mobile experts/entrepreneurs should start a business to interface to T-Mobile for people like me who can't handle the complexity. I assume the local T-Mobile store would be useless in helping me do this if I went on 12/31?

I noticed from viewing my SOC/info I don't think I have a "One Plus" promo (I had to look up what that was). Unlike most others here, I'm not a T-Mobile expert. I just use my phone barely knowing what plan I have, and the only time I even concern myself with these things is when I see everyone and their grandma getting more free lines and perks every few months while I'm left out in the cold. I guess you were in that same situation, GreenCreature437, until 12/22, but you figured it out. If I miss this promo, I wonder if it'll be possible to do it next year. This is so overwhelmingly YMMV and complex to me, even with your great explanations, it's no wonder I've been too afraid to make any changes.

Yes, the T-Mobile ONE plans are tax inclusive. So the extra line will be free and you don't have to pay the extra tax and fees as with older plans like Simple Choice.
T-Mobile covers only $10.99 (still better than nothing). So if you enable Netflix in your T-Mobile account they will add $2 ($3 from Jan 15th) to your T-Mobile to offset the Netflix difference.
The promo ends tomorrow so you still have a full day to chat with them on Facebook, Twitter, iMessage whatever. Just be clear what you want and which SOC you want to move to. If the rep doesn't want to do it try to escalate to a supervisor or give up that rep and try a different one. Technically it's possible including moving the existing promotions to the new free line.
Good Luck!

Exactly. I had FOMO (fear of missing out) every time those deals came up and I was left out with my plan . laugh out loud

My plan is to hope for another free line in 2021 and also try to convince a rep to add an employee hookup discount to the account if they become available again. I know this will be difficult but it's worth another try as it would bring the bill down to $96 or even $76 after kickbacks on the 2 paid lines. Not a bad deal for 3 or potentially 4 lines (with ONE Plus promotion add-on) in the future and Netflix included (though this would add the extra $3 so $99 or $79 respectively).

SOC is TIULFM9.
-Added my 11th line yesterday thru Costco (together with 50% iPhone SE + $100 shop card). I got the promo text right away but only showed $6 Hook up discount. Plan price in My Account shows an extra $24.
-Today it got updated to $60 2020 LOU3 (doubled from the November $30 LOU3) and the $6 Hook Up is gone. Plan price in My Account is correct, same as before.

Thanks so much. I've been in chat for the last 30+ minutes (on top of the 30 minutes to get my first chat response) and the upshot is this T-Force rep via Facebook chat claims FRLTULF2 is not a currently active plan so she can't do anything. So I should ask for a supervisor or hope if 611 calls me back someone there will know?

I forgot if you had a free line with your FRLTUL2LP plan, but if you did (as I do) then I should be able to move that free line to FRLTULF2 and add 2 second free line with this promo? IOW, I don't lose my existing free line when moving between these 2 plans?

We'll see what happens but considering how much time it has taken already and being told no, I'm not optimistic. It's easily 5-10 minutes between messages in chat. I assume it's not always this bad but just everyone else adding a free line at the last minute.

Baguda,
How about to look at this from a different perspective. We may pay less on our monthly bill, but waste too much time dealing with T-Mobile.
You can find something you enjoy that can make you an extra $50 or so every month and you will be happier and less stressed out.
