You need to remember what you wrote:

P4a5G gets 3 Android version updates.

You are incorrect again.
Google never ever promised 3 system updates. You are mistaken. You are confusing 3 years with 3 automatic system updates. Did you know it took 13 months from android 10 to 11.

Assume it takes like 13 months between system updates just like from 10 to 11, it will leave the Pixel 4a 5G with getting 2 system updates over their 3 years. The Pixel 4a 5G came out when Android 11 just came out. Think about that.

Pixel 4a 5G (android 11...... Sept.) 2020 <--- came with
android 12 ..... Nov 2021 <-- 1 system update
android 13....... Dec 2022 <--- 2nd system update

The 3rd system update won't happen before November 2023.... That equates to 2 system updates unless Google starts putting out system updates less than 1 year. Do you believe Google will start putting out system updates in like every 10 months?

I'm writing this review from the piece of junk called an A71.

HISTORY: I had a s9+ for almost 2 years. I tried to catch a good deal on the s10 or s20, but samsungs retail prices are outrageous and all promotions require an add-a-line. I got sick and tired of waiting and got an iPhone 11. Very powerful and smooth machine but i couldn't get used to the switch, specially without a fingerprint scanner.

Then I decided if I can't get a deal on a flagship phone, I'll try a "mid" tier Samsung A71. It's not a mid tier people. It's not. You'd think a phone that retails at $650 would be solid, its not. It stutters like the old cheap crap that cost $130 in a t-mobile store 7 years ago. Can't multitask properly. Almost freezes at least 2-3 times a day. Gotta close all the apps to give a chance to breathe. The s9+ was a much more solid performer. The freaking iPhone has their flagship processor in their $650 AND $400 phones. Only the size and features are different. Samsung should do the same.

Here's the worst part. A $650 that's not waterproof. They say it should handle a bit of splashing here and there, IT DOESNT. I was listening to a podcast in the shower and minimal water splashed on it. I wiped the water right after. The phone started acting like crazy. For almost a week, the volume is going up and down without the rockers being touched. Thought it was the case, but it wasn't. Also I couldn't hear anyone or anyone hear me no matter what I tried. Speaker, Bluetooth device, car. I Reset the phone 4 times during that period. Thankfully, it slowly went back to normal.

Also the fingerprint scanner is straight trash. It will scan my fingerprint on the first attempt 1 in 10 times if I'm lucky. I usual get frustrated and swipe up to use the pattern

This is my last Samsung device for a while. I'm probably going to give the pixel a try, and go back to the iPhone when they bring back the fingerprint scanner.

Further PROOF that this phone is trash. the pixel 5 and iPhone 11 are in the same retail price range, but never have these kind of promotions. And Samsung never has similar promotions on their other phones. Also, try to trade this phone BACK in to SASMUNG for their flagship phones, YOU SIMPLY CAN'T. It's not even listed. Because they know it has no value.

If you need a phone to get by, go for it. But do NOT buy this phone thinking it's a solid mid tier phone.
To be honest, I don't know what type of user you are, tech savvy, a powerful/gaming or just a normal user. For me, I'm working in IT but just use my phone as a normal person, mainly for call, text and some social apps. I found this phone is nice and smooth enough for all I'm doing. I'm not gaming, taking pictures, videos and Tiktoking. I spent only $36 bucks for the A71 and official Samsung case including tax after trading in my old iphone 8 a month ago. I'm a type of person who will not spend more than $300 for a phone so it's a good deal with as minimal out of pocket as possible.

I like my A71. Mine works fine. I haven't used it in the shower and never will. But fingerprint works fine (not as nice as TouchID was on Apple, but still works OK). The performance and screen quality are also nice, but the A71 is not the same class as an iPhone 11 (which I have an 11 PRO MAX), but I also paid only $88 for my A71 and as such, why would I compare it to a much more expensive iPhone 11?

Do you have to be a customer for that carrier to get the phone on that carrier? I am not a customer for them.

So how is this deal any different than the deal on the same phone that's been running for weeks?

Tmobile version is OOS and the 100 off coupon don't apply on other models, possibly try Verizon as that is also on promotions with Buds+ free.

Which carrier are you on? For Verizon I would agree with that statement but not in TMobile- for T-Mobile I usually get at least 10% faster on 5G- whereas on Verizon I usually get much slower speeds (like 3G 😂) on "5G"
Tmobile here and I am in New York too . Even in Queens NY ( close to Manhattan (NYC) the 5G is a joke .
