Wow great deal. You could use the S20 as a stepping stone to the S21 by trading it in next year. You may even get more than $400 trade in credit.

It's unlocked, but you need to stay in fi for 90 days to get your $600 discount

Has anyone seen a post like this where the non-Fi SIM was from a carrier other than T-Mobile? I saw it suggested elsewhere in this thread that because Fi runs on T-Mobile's network, Google might be able to tell if you switch to another T-Mo carrier, which might make sense. But from my own experience with an n of 1, I did the Pixel 4a 5g deal on Black Friday, and used my Visible SIM and had no problems, so I am wondering if this issue is specific to T-Mobile.
I am curious if I missed a warning from someone on another network.

So are you saying you used your Visible SIM in your Pixel 4a 5g immediately after Google Fi SIM activiation and cleared the promo terms? Have you ported our of Google Fi on your Pixel 4a 5g yet?

Yes. Actually, 2 of them. I activated on Fi, took out the SIMs, reset the phones and used the Visible SIMs instead. I never put the Fi SIMs into any other phones, and I paid the Fi bills for 2 months. When the last promo requirement got a check mark on their website, I waited a few more days and then ported out. So I did pay a prorated charge for that 3rd month, but there was no issue with the discount.
That is why I am so curious about where all the fear is coming from. I wonder if it was just a few random bad experiences, or if the people who got hit were on a specific carrier, or what. I certainly don't want to lose the $600 discount here, and I most certainly don't want to have to deal with Google's abysmal customer service ever again in my life. But I also want to set up the new phone and move on. (I hated that Pixel 4a 5g). I am prepared to keep my Fi account active for 90 days and pay. That seems like it should be enough.

That's good to know.
It seems to me that the Google Fi system will NOT detect that your Samsung device is NOT in active use with the Fi service automatically, therfore the remaining days is counting down as normal. In my particular situation, I contacted the Google Fi representative about why my Fi credit not applied to my monthly bill, as a result, he or she looked into my account carefully and manually noticed that my Samsung phone was not in active use with the Fi service. In other words, I should not have any problem if I didn't contact the Google Fi representative. I agree with you that I don't want to deal with Google's abysmal customer service ever again in my life. It's too much hassle to get this deal. I wish I didn't see this deal at all.

I have bad news for anyone who is using another SIM once the Fi SIM is activated, as long as the Fi SIM is not used with another phone.

I actived the S20 with Fi SIM and used it for about one week. Then factory reset the phone and use my Tmobile SIM in it for about another week. Fi SIM is in my draw, never used in another phone. The days counting is normal, 74 more days.

Today, I chatted with the Fi representative about my Fi credit not applied to my monthly bill. He or she particularly mentioned that the device was not active with Google Fi. Here is the transcript of the chat:
I suggest you to please resume your services and stay active with Fi to get Fi credits.
Yes, however I see that the device is not active with Google Fi.
Please inform member to activate Fi services on Samsung device.
From our end it shows that member activate the Fi services on different device model.
If he is not activate the fi services on Samsung device you will be charged $600.

Based on my understanding, Google may not know what network service is used in the Samsung device, but they definitely know it is NOT used in Fi.
Did you use your Google fi Sim in another phone?

I am an existing Tello customer. I was going to get this phone and move back to Tello after 90 days but I saw that 'Samsung phones designed for Fi don't support Sprint's network' . So it became a deal breaker for me.
Tello is moving from Sprint's CDMA to T-Mobile's GSM so you should probably get this deal as it seems that it will work on the Tello T-Mobile GSM network they are currently switching to

FWIW, I am on Tello and signed up for this deal.

I put in the EIN for the S20 on the EIN checker and it said it would work. I have not put in the Sprint sim though.

Big thanks!! It seemed like this deal would work from what I read from others, but now I actually feel confident jumping on this deal.
I believe they will be sending users a new SIM when we are forced to switch to GSM VoLTE

For others on Tello, you'll want to see if you are GSM ready via https://tello.com/new-gsm-network

Here's what I'm trying to figure out. Why are people removing the Fi SIM or using a "throw away" number and waiting the 90 days? What's wrong with porting your number and porting away after the 90 days? Is there some "gotcha" in the process or some other problem? I'm curious what the risks are. Thank!
It is simply too expensive.
I already have Mint paid for 6 months with 10gb data.
If I use Fi for 90 days cost to me would be 70x3=210
If I don't use Fi and just keep it open. It is 23x3= 70
That's $140 difference for me.

Where are you porting from? Did you provide Fi with correct info for the current account?
