To answer some of the many questions about the low trade-in value shown. I have done this sorts of trade-in with T-Mobile before, It's a 2 part deal, It doesn't show the full $800 amount, THAT'S NORMAL.

PART 1.The official trade-in value you see during the process is less than the $800 offer, because that's the trade-in value that Assurant (the phone goes to them not directly to T-Mobile,) pays for said phone. The Trade-In "agreement" is for the Assurant value amount.

PART 2. Once Assurant has received, assessed and accepted the trade-in, T-Mobile adds the difference in the form of bill credits to total the amount of the Promo.
So it shows Trade-In value $80, yes, that's what Assurant will be paying for the phone. T-Mobile will add $720 to that and spread it all out in credits for a 24 months term. A couple of days after submitting the trade-in, your account should show the promo in the EIP section. The promo name will be shown there and "Pending Trade-In".

Voila.

Awesome deal for my S9. Wonder if Costco comes up with rebate deal instead of this EIP deal. Prefer outright deal.

For anyone who would remain a Tmobile customer anyway, this deal makes the Fi S20 deal ($400 + 90 day service ) lukewarm at best.

A $175-$200 S9 phone gets you S21. Fi will cost nearly $500 for S20.

Even though S21 is typically seen as a downgrade, S21 does have better (faster and more efficient) processor, mmWave 5G over S20.

Any thoughts?
I currently use an S9 which I like well enough. It's about 2.5 years old, and i've been wondering when the battery will start degrading. It's not at peak but it's pretty decent batter life still. The idea of avoiding the hassle by trading it in for the S21 makes it worth it to me. I too am annoyed at the loss of the SD slot. I bought the $850 version with the extra internal 128GB just as a 'fail-safe' for down the line. I may come to regret it as I don't really fully use the 128GB SD card I currently have in my S9. Looking forward to upgraded camera, CPU, 5G, etc. The screen resolution on S21 is WORSE than on my S9, 3 generations old, believe it or don't. I don't feel my old tired eyes will notice this difference. So, processed the S21 order just now. I didn't even pay anywhere close to $800 for this S9 2.5 years ago, so it seems like a solid win-win. If this phone turns out to suck, I guess I can flip it for the S22 down the line.

I took this screen shot for later arguing if necessary. "Receive a one-time bill credit based on your trade-in value, and the balance of the offer via 24 monthly bill credits"

All the sub $200 S9 deals on eBay and Swappa seem to have screen burn in issues. Anyone know if that'd disqualify from trade-ins?

Works at Sprint too. Just swapped a pair of S10 for S21 256gb for $150 in tax and $4x24. No sd means you really need the extra space. No headphone, no sd card... at this rate the S50 will be just a screen and a 7G modem.

Just did a trade in for my s10e for the S21 5G 128GB, paid sales tax of $70. I get $160 instant statement credit and the rest ($640) split into 24 monthly credits. Want to hold on to the 5.8" screen but at this price it's pretty hard to pass up.

Fyi, eip document will not show the monthly credits, you will have to monitor closely. Just like the S20FE preorder, a few days after the phone ships you will see a promotion code applied to the relevant phone line that looks similar to "2020 Samsung Trade P13".

I am not sure about the $100 credit and the smart tag, but like others said, it may just be logging into samsung app on the S21 to redeem.

I wonder if it's possible that after you receive your S21 in the mail, you can drop off your phone at a Store so they can evaluate right away instead of mailing it in.
I asked, and was told no, and was given a shipping label.

There's now a link above the phones on the page the OP linked to that makes the deal clear. Add a line is not required for the trade-in option.

Still hoping Costco does this too.
Why Costco? whats the deal there?

I think you are making a great choice.
I'm sure your S9 has a setting to run the display at 1080P+ resolution to save battery. So, at a minimum, you will get better battery performance. You can turn this mode on to see if you can tell the difference between FHD+ and WQHD+ resolution. To make up for it, you will get 120Hz display which you can really tell.

You should be fine with 256GB since you didn't even use your SD card. However, remember, S21 can do 8K videos that will eat storage like nothing.

Other than that - it's a win in everyway. You will get all the 5G bands (Tmobile) including mmWave, serious camera upgrade, Gorilla Victus protection, newer OS + guaranteed upgrades and new battery - all for $50 + tax.

This is a great deal.
