Hmmm... 2 or 3 dollars off the previous lowest price... I'm tempted.

how does that redlight camera feature work? by hardware sensor or from an existing online database?

Both... it has gps and a database of red light cameras PLUS, MRCD detection. MRCD is the radar tech deployed in most speed / red light cameras.

If you are planning on it I would say go for it. As far as I remember the cheapest I have seen it was $400 and can't remember if it was new or refurbished

You'll mainly depend on the database and gps. MRCD in the us is only used in NYC, Maryland and DC (according to vortex at least)

NYC metro area is peppered with MRCD. It's gotten to the point where not getting an MRCD alert every few mins feels strange.

Gotta make that dolla. At least you are not in virginia where it's illegal to have a radar detector and every city used tickets as a main source of income.

If you have been thinking of getting one, I highly recommend it. I got one the last time it went on sale to replace my Valentine One gen1. I am very impressed by it from detection range to its ability to filter out the false signals out because the V1 just constantly picks up everything. I really like the frequency counter as the enforcement radars used in my area are the same. The big plus is the free firmware updates to it. I paid $200 to upgrade the V1 4-5 years ago which was obsolete just a couple years later.

This will eventually get auto lockouts once the beta testers work the bugs out. The V1 Gen 2 has much better filtering and would be a better choice for some of you if you like something that is more quiet with BSM falses

MRCD is not used in red light cameras. Other tech, like MRCT and RLSC are used in red light cameras. I have an R3 with the latest firmware and have never been alerted to these. All red light alerts I've encountered were GPS based
