hands down the worst os you can get a tablet filled with adds yes i know you can run android after doing bunch of stuff but you should not have to do that

Wait, Amazon does that? I'd be willing to trade-in my 8 HD (2018) for an HD Plus if I only had to spend a few more bucks. It's been decent for offline netflix playback, but being my only microUSB device makes charging sometimes cumbersome. AFAIK there's no improved HEVC decoder since the SoC is just the same but faster and more RAM. Still, I'll pay like $30 to get USB-C/wireless charging. I don't even want Echo Show mode.

I don't know but you are getting one extra gig of RAM so that should help
Also have you installed nova launcher and then disabled the fire launcher because that helps alot

Also don't block updates ,my 2018 HD 8 updated and it runs much better now
And I finally got micro G to work after the update before last , I was using my HD 10 latest gen the most , mostly because I couldn't log into vanced with micro G on the HD 8 even after trying everything
Since the update before last the tablet is much faster and I can now log into micro G and the battery is much better too
And I find myself using the HD8 2018 more now ,also the 10 seems to be slower now
But I have temp root on it and have disabled updates
Which also makes the HD 10 not have the alexa smart home control menu that I now have on the HD 8
This plus the smaller size makes the HD 8 my favorite now where as before it was the HD 10

I would like to get the new one but I already have too many fire tablets

Plus I am hoping they come out With one with more features like a folio keyboard connector

I can't believe they left that out on the latest HD 8
adding a magnetic 3 pin folio connector like on an ipad would allow them to sell a one piece show mode dock and a folio keyboard cover
multiple docks even ,ones with speakers ,maybe one in the form factor of an echo show 8 and one in the form of the new rotating echo show too
there is not much else left to add to these things
I rest hope the next gen we see this

Skeptical to get one of these after getting a Fire HD 7 back in 2017. I literally use it to read the NY Times (and watch movies on VLC when I travel), but it still gets glitchy.

Have these things improved enough to be a stable e-reader?

I have 8 and 10 , 8 is sitting collecting dust waiting for decent trade in to get rid of it
I got my kids latest 10 for 79$ during prime day it worth every $

I would definitely get the 10. Although it has the same amount of memory, it has a faster cpu and better resolution in screen. I wouldn't be surprised that Amazon is going to refresh the HD 10 with more memory and maybe a little better cpu this year.

You can use it as an Echo too.

Forgot to mention, the new HD 8 and HD 8 Plus have a landscape based camera. If you use get for a kid to use with OSMO, you will have to buy the $10 adapter.

Not sure when that will happen . But durning prime day I traded my echo for 30$ plus 20% off the echo show 8 . Waiting for something similar or close at least .
