SimpliSafe: Free Upgrade to Latest Model!! YMMV

SlickDeals has brought me so much joy over the years that I wanted to share a pretty awesome deal that I stumbled upon.

For anyone that currently has a SimpliSafe Security System (older generation model) and you've been bummed like I was that the new system is so much more aesthetically pleasing - you can upgrade FOR FREE. The new model is the SSCS3.

Please Read: So here's the catch. The water sensor is no longer supported by the older generation SimpliSafe systems. And given how important of a component that is, any customers hoping to buy a water sensor can no longer avail themselves of their older gen model.

So all you need to do is call SimpliSafe and tell them that you purchased a new water sensor and you can't add it. The new water sensors have an 8 digit ID. The old gen SimpliSafe system only lets you put in 5 digits. So you can't add it.

The rep will offer you a free upgrade on ALL of your system components!! I didn't even ask for it. It seems like its just a standard thing that they are doing. I've tested this 3 times. 100% success. Never once did I have to ask them for the upgrade. They just offered it right away.

** And for anyone wondering, my system was purchased in 2017! So its beyond the 3 year warranty. No issue at all.
** Also I do NOT pay for active monitoring, and that wasn't an issue either.

HINT: For anyone that wants to be SUPER SLICK, you could also purchase used gen 1/2 components on the cheap and get those replaced with brand new gen 3 components.

EDIT: Some people have mentioned that the reps advised them to return the new water sensor and get the old one. That's the whole issue! You can't. They don't sell the old one anymore. The only way to do this is to upgrade your system. So please ask them rep how/where you can buy the old one?

Anyone have a discount code for sensors? I am not even sure how/when codes get distributed by Simplisafe. But, I do know they offer site wide discount codes from time to time where you don't have to buy a whole system. Looking for something 25-30% off.

I called and received the upgrade. We have a very basic setup; I only have 5 sensors, the keypad and keychain remote, and we are on the $15 plan. It was a quick process and they even added me 2 months free service. We have been with them since 2014; they cited that as the reason they were willing to upgrade our system. Though it seems like some posters here also have been with them that long. So definitely YMMV.

I ordered a water sensor and will call in when it arrives then report back. I've got 20+ sensors, been with them since 2016 and have been a paid monitoring customer since 2016 ($25/month). A couple of my door/entry sensors have been acting up lately and also I have to place the base station in the middle of the house for it to be able to receive signal from all sensors. Problem with that is there's no power outlet near where I need to place the sensor, and in that spot it also can't get cellular reception (they already replaced the tmobile card with a verizon card).

I tried twice and both times no luck. However, I had my wife call. She says my husband received this water sensor and he just spent the past hour trying to hook it up... something about 8 digits and our system only allows 5... says he got pissed and quit and went to work and asked me to call... rep understood ... and she wanted to help... new system... EVERY component I have purchased over the past 4 years minus cameras FREE! I soooooo appreciate this post! Thank you!!!

So I had called in when this was first posted and they did not have any offers. But then today, out of the blue I got a voicemail that seems almost scammy but said they Simplisafe was offering a free upgrade from my original system.
I called in and it took a bit for them to look it up, but they said yes, and processed my free upgrade. I did buy 2 additional water sensors, but otherwise free.

So who knows how I got on the list, but this post is valid.

I had a pretty small system, but i called to cancel my monitoring. My keypad stopped working and we decided to switch to Ring, but i saw this thread and figured they'd probably make an offer. They are sending the new upgraded system at no cost. I didn't discuss water sensors and let them make the offer. I genuinely planned on cancelling, so it's risky if you actually want to stay with them. Customer since 2015.

Ring seems to offer more on the monitoring side for $5 less per month. I may just sell this new system in a couple months and switch anyway, but my old system certainly had no value.

FYI, they want me to send the old system back.

I'm currently paying $15 a month for monitoring. If I upgrade do I need to pay more for monitoring?

Ring has a terrible god awful alarm siren. The SimpliSafe is much louder but still not good enough. The accessory sirens from SimpliSafe are much better than the garbage circular speakers that ring sells.

Experience is from having SimpliSafe at our home and ring at parents.

Finally got my new water sensor. Called them and they would not do a free upgrade. The best they offered was 50% off, and even with that, I'm looking at $400. The rep escalated and management would not budge from 50% off.

In summer around July timeframe, they sent out email for free upgrade for customers that were using SimpliSafe for a while. They have that record in the system, if you did qualify they will use that offer now and upgrade you for free. Worth an ask..

I can confirm that SimpliSafe just upgraded my system for free. I mentioned the original water sensor issue and they did not budge. But when I threatened to leave their monitoring system, they decided upgrade me because of my loyalty. I did not have to ask for a supervisor before they did that. I was debating about actually leaving though. The old system doesn't have Alexa integration and the monitoring is expensive. The new system may keep me around for a little longer. Let's see.

I just called and have been a customer since 2017. I mentioned the sensor and they did not put up any resistance to cancelling. The phone call took about 3 minutes. I had been thinking about cancelling for a while anyway and this pushed me to move forward.

Yeah in the long run, probably leaving is the better decision. For what its worth I have been with them since 2015. I dont know if that means anything but in short its a lot of money I have given them.
