Great deal on a mid-range gaming laptop! I got it for $622 with military pricing but students and teachers can benefit from a discount as well. However, the i5-9300h and 2060 combo is known to have some throttling issues so you may have to undervolt the cpu and apply a curve to the GPU to control the temps. Other than that, this is a pretty solid deal for a 2060 laptop.

I have the Gateway and it's a great deal when on sale. With that this Lenovo has a better screen but a LOWER refresh rate (which matters for gaming), 4GB more memory and 250GB larger SSD. The different CPU installed gives the Gateway a slight bump but they are pretty close. On the Gateway, I installed an extra 8GB of ram to bump it up to 16GB for $35 and installed (2) 500GB NVME SSD in it for $110. On the Lenovo I probably wouldn't touch the ram but I would probably throw another 500GB NVME SSD into it if there is a slot available. With that being the case, the Lenovo wouldn't need as much money for upgrades at least for my use. The screen discrepancy is probably the deciding factor as the Gateway refresh rate will be better for high end gaming. HTH

For $899, get the following specs

Tracer IV 15 300
i7-10750H 6cores/12 threads 2.60GHz Turbo 5.0GHz 12MB Cache
Intel® HM470 Chipset Motherboard
NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2060 6GB GDDR6 (Turing) [VR Ready]
15.6" 1920x1080 144Hz
240GB SSD
16GB (8GBx2) 2666MHz RAM
Thunderbolt 3

For $200 more you get a better processor, and 4gb more ram, but a smaller SSD. Don't see it as good of a deal personally as $200 is a big bump when you're talking about the same graphics card.

Wrong. This Verge "article" is not a reliable source of information. At that price expect the lowest level Ryzen chip and a GTX 1650 and a completely crap screen. There is absolutely no way in heck Lenovo will be selling a gaming laptop with a 3000 series GPU (even the rumored 3050 which hasnt even been announced yet) anywhere close to that price.

I tutor online via my employer's app/platform. I have a basic Acer Aspire. There are times it lags when I play videos/slides with animation. Is a gaming laptop the way to go? I am fairly tech challenged and not sure if it's a graphics issue or what. I will use it solely for work, so it's not bogged down by anything else.

The video card and memory would make a big difference for you if that's what's causing the bottleneck. It sounds to me like you're using the integrated graphics from the cpu. This might actually be overkill but you wouldn't have to worry about your system slowing down.

Display is trash, CPU is trash. Keep waiting for Ryzen 4000 series with better screen. It has to be coming sometime soon.

I used EPP and it's $639, going to pull the trigger as I can't find that Walmart G65. I found two stores with it but they won't match the $699 price at all the sold out stores. I'm just waiting for price changes.
