Great deal on a mid-range gaming laptop! I got it for $622 with military pricing but students and teachers can benefit from a discount as well. However, the i5-9300h and 2060 combo is known to have some throttling issues so you may have to undervolt the cpu and apply a curve to the GPU to control the temps. Other than that, this is a pretty solid deal for a 2060 laptop.

I have the Gateway and it's a great deal when on sale. With that this Lenovo has a better screen but a LOWER refresh rate (which matters for gaming), 4GB more memory and 250GB larger SSD. The different CPU installed gives the Gateway a slight bump but they are pretty close. On the Gateway, I installed an extra 8GB of ram to bump it up to 16GB for $35 and installed (2) 500GB NVME SSD in it for $110. On the Lenovo I probably wouldn't touch the ram but I would probably throw another 500GB NVME SSD into it if there is a slot available. With that being the case, the Lenovo wouldn't need as much money for upgrades at least for my use. The screen discrepancy is probably the deciding factor as the Gateway refresh rate will be better for high end gaming. HTH

Good deal. I would have gotten this and returned my BF HP Pavilion Gaming if this were in stock last week when my return date passed!

I think the Gateway argument is a moot point - the $650 price on the i5/2060 Creator series was like 2 months ago, and the $699 was gone several weeks ago, so it's like folks here are comparing a hypothetical price drop.

Main benefits of the i5/2060 GW Creator model:
* Faster processor 10th gen i5 (vs 9th 9300h - this H model processor does not have integrated video)
* Higher refresh 120hz display (vs 60hz)
* thinner/much lighter (~4.1lbs vs ~5.5)
* easier returns with Walmart

Benefits of Lenovo:
* Lenovo is a much more proven/supported brand, at least in the US
* more ram (12gb) and storage (512gb) out of the box - upgrades are not so urgent
* likely has higher coverage of the sRGB color gamut than the Gateway, making it a better choice for prosumer video/graphic design/3D developers where detail is important.
* actually available at $699 right now! (The gateway creator i5/2060 costs $899 at the moment)

Awesome...and they'll be $700 too?

I doubt any of the Ryzen laptops will ever come below $800, unless specs are low: 8gb ram and 256gb ssd/ or open box/refurb.

This was lower priced due to all the cons: 9th gen (instead of 10th), Intel i5 (instead of i7), 12gb (vs 16gb)and Screen was 60hz (vs 120 or 144hz).
-But the pros were still worth it for this price: RTX 2060 below $800, Lenovo modern build design, > 8gb ram, and a 230watt power supply (vs 180)
------
Older Ryzen, rtx 2060 will probably continue to be priced between $800-$1000 while RTX 3060 Ryzen 4000/5000 will be between $1100 to $1500 depending on a sale vs timing of sale (all year Feb-to-Dec).

There was only a few models with Ryzen7/9 4000series + RTX 2060 that have been available to anyone: average price of $1100.

Lenovo Legion 5 15.6" or Legion 7 17.3" -- from various sellers --lowest was around $1000 (or 900 after cashback)
Asus TUF 15.6 60hz at BB--lowest @$800
HP Omen from HP site --lowest was $899
Asus G14 ryzen9 / 2060mq--lowest was $980ish open box @BB
EVOO 15.6" 120hz - amazon --lowest was $1020
Eluktronics RP-15/RP-17 RYZEN 7--lowest was $1139

I was able to order it before it went OOS. I am not too familiar with this stuff, but if we invest in a 120 or 144 hertz monitor with this cheaper laptop, would that resolve the issue? Looks like the screen refresh rate is a major drawback of this. My son plays games on the desk with the power cord plugged in anyway, so I was thinking instead of buying a more expensive laptop with a higher refresh rate, I could get a larger monitor with 120 or 144 hertz refresh rate. Is that a good plan? He will mostly be using it for Flight Sim 2020 and Minecraft.

If you got the HP from Walmart, today is the last day to return is based on their Holidays return schedule.

Anyone else get the free Back to the Future shipping? Mine is shipping Feb. 9 and arriving Feb. 8.

Pretty sweet... the shipping companies have really upped their technology.

Yeah I wasn't too upset about the 60hz screen. I use a docking station and use my laptop as a desktop with a 144hz monitor. So it was a no brainer for me. I will also experiment with overclocking the panel to 75hz or more.

Over on reddit, they're saying it's been OCd to 90hz but it took some tweaking. I'm gonna see how it is and if it's annoying, will grab a 120hz and throw it in there

Thank you for clarifying - looks like I'm in the market for a gaming monitor now.

I typically advise that you refer to the manual if the specs don't clearly specify.

Page 35 in the above document shows how to remove a SATA SSD from this system. So yes, it does support one.

Thanks very much.
