As it seems this model is only good for wifi 6 if you aren't planning to use it in a mesh. It'll drop back down to wifi 5 in order to support the mesh.

I was looking at this until I found out that there will be no merlin firmware support for it. So keep that in mind; I'll be looking for a price drop on the AX86U instead.

I bought this from Amazon and returned it less than a week later. When it works, it's great but then randomly, wifi will completely freeze and clients will be unable to connect until it is rebooted. Latest Asus firmware did not help.

I believe you can still use the Wifi 6 band if you use a wired backhaul for the mesh setup instead of a wireless backhaul set up.

Yet it is literally called "Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6 Mesh Router" which you're saying it is not? False advertising?

I think Hiemdall meant that if you use this in existing mesh network where you have older routers that are WiFi 5, this router will stick to rated WiFi 5 speeds to maintain compatibility.

If you have a Mesh network made up of only WiFi 6 routers, then it should be WiFi 6 throughout.

At least that is my guess. I could be wrong though.

Are others having same issue?

It's a wifi 6 enabled router that has the ability to do mesh on wifi 5 since the mesh uses the only wifi 6 band as the backend for the mesh. There was a review somewhere that mentioned that.

I have two in Aimesh with a gt11000 as the host. They are all in WiFi 6 with dedicated back haul over 5ghz.

It has 3 bands 2.4ghz, 5ghz, 5ghz. I bought them specifically so I could have a WiFi6 mesh with dedicated backhaul.

Same situation with me, bought three from Microcenter kept for a week and returned. Same exact issue as well. Aren't these getting discontinued?

So, there is a graphic on the product page for this that says the 2 5Ghz bands has a total of 4804Mbps, so the backhaul has 2402 and the main one is 2402. But that is on a 4x4 connection. Most are 2x2. So does that mean the max is 1200? If so, that's not much better than WIFI5.
