For most people these Elgato capture devices are way overpriced.

Just buy some generic crap at Amazon like this one I own: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08JBZVQCV

1080p60 is fine for 99% of folks there in streamland. Plug-n-play, Mac, PC and Android phones.

Just to give fair warning for Nikon users.... this is a garbage solution. It's free, but its garbage. Nikon software only outputs at 1024 x 768 pixels (XGA).

The HD60 S and other devices are more for streaming from a console since they have hdmi pass through with virtually no added lag. They are also useful if you're capturing from a good camera for a live stream and you want to see the camera output on a secondary screen.

If you just need to capture a clean hdmi feed to use with something like OBS the Cam Link 4k is a better choice since it's smaller and cheaper and can take a 4k signal that you can crop/resize for your stream.
THIS! thank you so much! <3

If anyone is thinking of using this to record their Windows screen, I recently discovered if this press Windows+G it opens the Xbox recording, and you can record the screen unlimited... I know not the same thing as elgato but just a tip is you need to do screen recording.
Win+G also records system sounds —- like Netflix etc...
You wouldn't use this to capture a windows screen, except maybe from another computer you are trying to save performance on (think dual PC streaming setup). Apples to Oranges bro.

I don't get this. I recently bought 4k 60fps capture card for $50 @ Amazon to stream my Switch games to the laptop. What's the point in paying more then twice that much (and call it a deal) when cheaper alternatives do the same job as efficiently for much less?

Can I use this to play my Switch/ps5 on my laptop screen? Or will there be a delay?

There will be a noticeable delay. Not recommended unless you only play puzzle or adventure games.

There is no card that does real 4k 60 for $50. If you're playing Switch at 1080p you might not notice the limitations of the fake specs.

The card that I have does 4k @60fps as a path through. I have tested it with my Xbox X and it does indeed passing the full signal to the laptop. However I bought it to play my Switch games on a laptop screen and you're right, Switch is a 1080p console.

Yes, then it is a 4k splitter and a 1080p capture card in the same unit. This elgato captures at 4k30 and has no pass through which means it's not intended for gaming but for 4k cameras or blu ray players. Apples and oranges.

Why not just buy the china stuff or the Atomos 4k connect? More or less the same thing and how many actually do or need 4K?

Nikon and canon both have webcam utility tools so just go to their site, make sure your camera is compatible and download the software. you will need a usb cable and dummy battery. Also make sure your camera has a clean hdmi output and you should be fine.

Sony now has it as well. I think this would be more for people who have point and shoots or maybe even camcorders. I have an old Sony that does 1080p 60fps and has an HDMI output that the Sony software doesn't work with.

I wanted to use my camcorder or camera (sony 4k camcorder and d610) .
They don't do webcam web have an HDMI out.

At first i tried with a el cheapo usb2 hdmi to usb converter.
The result was ok for static image, but as soon as there was movement, there were horrible stairs effects along the lines.

I am now using a El Cheapo usb3 hdmi to usb and it works perfectly in zoom, directly or through splitcam.

I am sure elgato does some things better, but for my zoom work meeting it's perfect and the hdmi to usb3 adapter was $15. No driver needed. The image is much nicer than that of a $10 webcam. Nice bokkeh, zoom can be adjusted, etc

My understanding is that Canon offers free software for their DSLRs so that you don't need a hardware device like this to use your dslr as a webcam (eg for videoconf). I don't know if it has same bells and whistles and/or quality, tho.

I've got a Nikon, though, so have been eyeing this (for other needs, too) so I just may bite!

Thanks for posting!
Didnt know that, so thanks for mentioning, but of course I checked out the Canon EOS Webcam Utility (LINK [canon.com]) and of course neither of my cameras are supported (5D Mark II and M6). Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Also worth noting, it looks like GoPro has a webcam solution too: LINK [gopro.com]

Did they change their specs? Looking at the current kickstarter it says "USB-C output transfers to computer up to 1920x1080 @ 60fps"

I have doubts anyways though since 1080p60 over USB2.0 speeds (they say USB2 cable) would have compromised image quality.
