I'm an iSheep but $250 for a keyboard - yeh no spank you! I can only give so much money to Apple. I'm from the sucka-free clinic.

I would have gone for this earlier when I bought my pro but the ipad is too limiting so for its current use case as a sidecar monitor to my $649 bestbuy open box m1 mba and using it as a stand alone touch screen ipad for browsing news and stuff, im not sure I would benefit from this as the macbook air keyboard seems just as nice with a better trackpad.

If I was using my ipad as my only device, I would jump on this but I dont think ipadOS currently is able to replace MacOS for me yet.

Compatible with 3rd gen?
Yup. I've had mine for about a year and it's a game changer for my 1tb 12.9" LTE 3rd gen.

I use mine about 8 hours a day (work and personal use) and it still looks pristine, too. Very durable.

Please only buy this if you're gonna put a skin on it I implore you. I think it's regrettable Apple decided to make something that's function is to be on a desk, table, etc. surface for typing so soft and poorly made.

It will not look good, even if you baby it it will not look good. It'll get smeared and dirty and it's just not worth it. I guess Apple envisioned people only using this keyboard while on autopilot in their Tesla's driving around in Silicon Valley. But for the people that will use it in a classroom, a coffee shop, a bedroom - it won't look good. A $15-20 skin will protect your $250-350 Magic Keyboard.

150% this. The old smart keyboard got the 2018 Pro was exactly the same and gets smudged/scuffed incredibly easy and will look pretty tacky in just months (or even weeks). Kind of crazy considering it's a $350 product. You can try your best to keep it looking good but when you end up sitting it on a desk or anything else and sliding it around there's no avoiding it.

Apple must be proud of their marketing team that people are going ga ga about their "keyboard", even if it costs a whopping $250. BTW, it's more than half for what a value hunter would've paid on Samsung's recent deal on their top of the line Galaxy Tab S7+ with 512GB storage, and brilliant AMOLED display that no tabs/iPads on market can match today. And, Samsungs come with s-Pen included, which costs another $100+ on Apple. In short, if you are going Apple, forget about getting value for your dollar. I am still on Apple ecosystem but recent Samsung deals on their devices made me seriously consider "value" part and switch to Samsung. I am sure there are many like me.

Regarding the deal, I seriously find no value in spending $250 just for a keyboard. Sorry "magic" keyboard, as what Apple's marketing folks like to call it.

This is an accidental monopoly then because there's literally nothing stopping competitors. The smart connector and magnets are not anything only Apple can design accessories for.
Actually, you are wrong. Apple won't open its gesture and other magic keyboard-related APIs for 3rd-party companies except to Logitech with some stupid limitations. What do you call this if not a monopoly? What makes iOS different than others like Windows. Microsoft used to play the same monopoly games, but not anymore.
As much as admire Apple products, stop defending companies like Apple. Using environmental reasons ( turns around and tries to sell a Magsafe with up to 7.5W compatibility forcing customers to invest in Magsafe this way) to remove the charger from the box is the shadiest thing I have seen so far and now there are rumors that Apple is working on a portless iPhone just to mess around with EU laws about unifying chargers and ports to reduce the E-waste.

There is nothing wrong with maximizing profits, but don't use environment bs for it!

I love iPads but this accessory is a lot of money. Samsung Tab S7 is $285 right now.

I'll buy a skin after, and if, it starts looking like a mess. Not before.

FYI

I have the 11 inch keyboard, and the 11 inch smart folio on sale at Amazon for 50% off, white only.
In seconds, I can switch between the keyboard and the smart folio. Both have strong magnets. The old Apple 2 piece smart covers were junk. The new one piece is excellent.

You are not wrong. In this universe during these days some privileged people still have disposable income to spend such money on keyboard alone 😅

If functionality is what matters to you then you can get Logitech BT mini keyboard, mouse and a tri-fold case for your iPad. A more versatile, and a LOT more cheaper solution under $50. You don't really need to spend extra $200 for that "magic" keyboard.
