As someone who just upgraded to a 5600x from a 2600x let me shed a little light on the process.
I had a MSI B450 Mortar motherboard (non-max) so I made sure to go to the MSI support website and download the BIOS update to a USB stick. After having difficulty with the actual file being recognized in the mflash sequence... i had to try another usb stick and repeat the process... I finally was able to update to the 5000 series compatible bios. After that I simple had to swap out the CPU and it recognized the change on next bootup, just had to hit F1 to enter new setup, RAM speed defaulted back to original so be aware if you did any BIOS tweaking before the swap. Other than that it was a fairly painless and seamless upgrade.
Performance wise I see about a 10-15% FPS boost in Apex Legends and 3-5% boost in BV5. I've yet to test Warhammer Total War 2 but it should be a healthy upgrade in an RTS game. I have a 1070Ti and game in 1440p monitor.
Hope this helps someon like me who was wondering if the 2600x to 5600x upgrade was worth it... I cleaned the 2600x chip and fan, took some photos, and popped it in the box, and same Newegg box it came in... then posted it on ebay for $150 free shipping. It sold within an hour and is on it's way to its new owner so ~ $150 upgrade for me in the end
Cool story bro
Thats great! I randomly decided to cut my grass with a
Black and Decker mower but I had already cut it with a Craftsman mower with the automatic forward pull wheels. Currently, I am thinking of buying a new mower so I can cut the uncut grass on the East side of a west facing house. What I'm trying to say with this long post is...whats your point???

I actually spontaneously decided to replace the 3600 for a new build that I'm doing w/ the 5600x. I already have a 5600x in my Gaming computer w/ 3070 vision x570 vision, 32 gb 3600. But doing another build w/ a Gigabyte 3070 windforce, and was going to be a 3600 but decided to bump to 5600x asus tuf gaming wifi plus w/ 16gb 3600mhz. I'll throw my old 1070ti in with it to mine or something. Or keep it as extra gaming PC, or sell the whole build. Not sure. But good post.
I think Zen 3 supply has been good the last few weeks. 5800x (generally not a great value) has been in stock for long periods of time at multiple retailers recently. 5600x was at best buy for about an hour last month, which is the longest I'd ever seen it at once.
Sorry AMD. You farted around with stock too long. I got impatient (after being.. very patient..) and picked up one of those 10850k's for $330. Couldn't stand having a 3080 that wasn't being used so had to get SOMETHING built. Tried my best to go AMD after years of Intel. Guess there's always next build..

How are you guys able to get the new 3000 gpus? Been looking forever and only see crazy scalper prices
I got mine via the EVGA program. Got on wait-list right at launch; about 3 weeks later got a notification saying I had 1 day to purchase else I lost my spot.

Best buy has these every other Tuesday morning it seems. I got mine a month ago and they shipped it to me overnight for free! Oh and if you have HWinfo64 on your pc remove it before installing this! I was chasing random freeze/reboots for 2 weeks and almost called AMD to RMA before I read there is a conflict with that software.
