I've been tracking the prices on R3/R7 forever, and it comes down to: "Do you consider arrows worth $125-150?" if you ignore the minor cosmetic differences.

To me, they weren't, and I bit on the R3 around $260 or so. I have had situations driving around where I'd like to know the direction of the KA alert, but I've gotten over it quickly. My car is a lightning blue cop magnet, so I just slow down on KA regardless.

To anyone buying this, chuck the user's manual and watch VortexRadar's 'R3 Configuration' video on YouTube on your phone in the car. 10m of setup and it's perfect.

It's not just arrows, they just released the firmware to include GPS auto lockouts.
As previously asked, new v1.35 firmware for R7 was recently released adding GPS auto lockout functionality and additional K band filters to quiet it down a bit from falses.

Too bad you didn't keep the R3 since they have been constantly updating it. The issues you may have had are resolved. It does have memory mute and works great to gps mem block all Speed signs, alarm systems, door openers, etc that you pass by everyday, A slight bit of setting adjustment eliminates the rest. It outranges most Escorts and V1's that cost twice as much. It does also now block false BSM very well. In fact, in a busy urban and suburban area like Tampa, I can go days without a false alert. There is a reason that the R7 is usually ranked in the top 2 best detectors list at "any price", while its little brother, the R3, comes in ranked within a couple spots or the R7. You'll need to pay $600+ for anything ranked higher (excluding for the R7).

I understand your perspective here but I prefer a detector that is more convenient to use and requires less fine tuning. Although max range is nice, I'm not going for max specs as most high range detectors are very closely matched in real world performance. I've used the first gen V1 (very noisey), 9500ix, R3, iX, Radenso XP, and now the Max 3 and I've found Escorts blend of autolockouts, BSM filtering, and overall suite of features to be best for my uses. I tried to like the R3 but in the end, I just found it to false too much. However, after you mentioned the firmware, I did update it and found it was about 3 versions behind and also uploaded the latest database. Oh well, now my brother can enjoy it haha.
