TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.
To accomplish it, you would need to:
1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.
This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

the rep changed my account back to 8 lines but my rate is much higher than before. I think she put me on the new magenta instead of my old magenta. any inputs?
talked with exec care about the hard 8 limit and it is in fact unchangeable for 12 month from opening account. on my account it was as much about fraud risk as credit. i signed up through costco with their own approval system. Had I tried to open account at TMO I would have run into the"Sprint recent former customer curse" caused by closing sprint account after merger in April and going straight to tmo. . .as well as having 4 family members in same house opening 5 line sprint accounts for the $300 byods last year. . . and i wouldn't have been able to open a tmo account without a thorough vetting by credit department as well as hard credit pull. my wife ran into this while trying to open tmo account for the 4x #250 byod in september. took a week to get her account opened. . but they had done so much manual background work that she was cleared for 12 lines when opened even though i have better credit. but once account is opened they cant change anything for 12 months after opening
These "deals" always leave me unsettled because of how overly complicated it is. None of the paperwork actually mentions the credit so I feel like I'm at the whims of a competent or incompetent customer service rep.
I took screenshots of everything we spoke about but even then it is always a headache to get things fixed once they go wrong.
I paid $65.88 for the tax and activation fee. I forgot to ask them to waive the $30 activation fee. Anyone know if it's possible to do it after the fact?

BTW, do you know if it's possible to change promotions at costco? I want to change one of my promotions to BYOD from Iphone rebate.
Thanks.

how much of a difference if changing select choice plan to simple choice? i think those 2 are the closest to each other in terms of pricing.
For those with SOC code MGNTA2, how much are you paying with 20% insider discount?
