If you remove any paid lines within the first year, the free line loses the promo and becomes paid.

TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.

To accomplish it, you would need to:

1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.

This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
My port-in was initiated during T439 promo period and completed today outside of the promo period. Without the port in (with only the added line and traded-in) I was on a bad promo. Once the port-in completed today, the system auto updated to T439 promo in my account --> promotions. Therefore, I don't think it was a requirement the port-ins must be completed by 3/24 EOB, just as long as they are initiated.
YES, you can use this sim in your iPad. I pay for 2 lines and have 3 free lines on promotion (5 lines total)
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

I am being told that I am maxed out at 8 lines on Tmobile One plan, so they can't add the free line, even though I technically qualify for it. Any idea what the workaround is?
You are probably on FRLTULF2 plan. Try and have a rep on T-force - twitter or facebook change it to TIULFM9 or FRLTULFM9 with all the promotions intact. Those 2 SOCs are for 9-12 lines.

Thanks OP! Easy peasy. Called and talked to rep. I asked if he can waive the activation fee and he did. $10 for the SIM card.

I'm maxed out at 8 lines. A rep changed my account to 9-12 lines but the system still won't let me add a new line even with deposit. Anyone have this problem?
the rep changed my account back to 8 lines but my rate is much higher than before. I think she put me on the new magenta instead of my old magenta. any inputs?
i ran into this last week with theBOGO AAL. was at 7 but costco rep couldn't add 2 more, just the paid one so i walked. . leaving the $300 byod on the table. i now am able to add this free line as 8th line.

talked with exec care about the hard 8 limit and it is in fact unchangeable for 12 month from opening account. on my account it was as much about fraud risk as credit. i signed up through costco with their own approval system. Had I tried to open account at TMO I would have run into the"Sprint recent former customer curse" caused by closing sprint account after merger in April and going straight to tmo. . .as well as having 4 family members in same house opening 5 line sprint accounts for the $300 byods last year. . . and i wouldn't have been able to open a tmo account without a thorough vetting by credit department as well as hard credit pull. my wife ran into this while trying to open tmo account for the 4x #250 byod in september. took a week to get her account opened. . but they had done so much manual background work that she was cleared for 12 lines when opened even though i have better credit. but once account is opened they cant change anything for 12 months after opening

I was able to chat with customer service through the app. Got the line added and got the iPhone SE by porting my Google Voice number.

These "deals" always leave me unsettled because of how overly complicated it is. None of the paperwork actually mentions the credit so I feel like I'm at the whims of a competent or incompetent customer service rep.

I took screenshots of everything we spoke about but even then it is always a headache to get things fixed once they go wrong.

I paid $65.88 for the tax and activation fee. I forgot to ask them to waive the $30 activation fee. Anyone know if it's possible to do it after the fact?

I was able to get 9-12 lines plan 4 or 5 months after account open, so not sure about 12 month requirement

I have the same problem. Was capped at 8 or 9 lines and had to do a lot of convincing to get them to put me at 10 to take advantage of the last two free lines. This time they can't do anything and said I needed tenure by waiting 12 months from opening the account. It's a bummer that I can't get another free line.

I opened mine at T-mobile store since Costco could not open it even though I was no longer a sprint customer for about 1 year. I added 2 lines BOGO so i maxed out my 8 lines limit. They said they don't know when i'd be approve for up to 12 lines.
BTW, do you know if it's possible to change promotions at costco? I want to change one of my promotions to BYOD from Iphone rebate.
Thanks.

It can be done - I was in the same boat where I did not want to change my number. I was able to do so by porting those numbers to google voice and using the call forward functionality to the new number for 3-4 months and then actually ported those numbers back to t-mobile on the new account. For external callers there was no difference as they were still calling the same old number during that entire timeframe.
great idea. i'm down to do this. Can you elaborate on this a bit?
  1. so you ported out the number you wanted to keep to GV for like 3-4 months
  2. then you port that GV back into your plan
  3. finally you cancel the "free/unwanted" lines?
  4. how do you know that your ported GV number becomes the free line?

Are you sure google voice port can be used for the free iphone SE?

Thanks. That is my current SOC. I am trying to figure out what is the better SOC (FRLTULFM9 vs TIULFM9) to switch to prepare for future free lines.

asking for someone who has Select Choice plan:
how much of a difference if changing select choice plan to simple choice? i think those 2 are the closest to each other in terms of pricing.

For those with SOC code MGNTA2, how much are you paying with 20% insider discount?

I am sorry, but I have no idea. In fact, I believe our particular plan is maxed out at 12 lines - 4 lines for $160, $20/line for the next 4 lines, and then $30/line for the last 4 lines.
