If you remove any paid lines within the first year, the free line loses the promo and becomes paid.

TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.

To accomplish it, you would need to:

1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.

This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
My port-in was initiated during T439 promo period and completed today outside of the promo period. Without the port in (with only the added line and traded-in) I was on a bad promo. Once the port-in completed today, the system auto updated to T439 promo in my account --> promotions. Therefore, I don't think it was a requirement the port-ins must be completed by 3/24 EOB, just as long as they are initiated.
YES, you can use this sim in your iPad. I pay for 2 lines and have 3 free lines on promotion (5 lines total)
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

Thanks and repped, this cleared my doubt. I saw this morning the EIP was calculated, it shows that I have -20.06 monthly on EIP, yesterday at the store, I traded in a S9, rep told me I got $80 credit for the phone, I know the Iphone 12 credit is $830, since I chose the 12 pro, which is $999.99, plus some $66 tax, I paid about $460 using credit card, since I was told that my credit limit was not enough for the phone, so the -$20.06 monthly should be what I will receive back for the credit card payment I made ? Did they charge me the correctly? many thanks.
From what you have provided
Cost of phone + tax + assistance = $1066
Instant credit = $80
Assuming that the instant credit was applied towards down payment,
total remaining on the phone = $1066 - (460+80) = $526 = $21.92 you owe per month

Your credit = $830 - $80 = $750 = $31.25 credit per month

Net is going to be $31.25 - $21.92 = $9.33 credit per month.

If you do the math another way, your total out-of-pocket expense should be $1066 - $830 = $236. Since you paid $460, you should get back $460 - $236 = $224 = $9.33 (credit) per month.

I don't understand why anyone would want to take the risk and try it with GV number.
I guess it depends on what the rep you are talking to tells you. From what I know of this deal most reps are stating that GV won't work for port-in.

1. This is the first time it is stated specifically.
2 Many people here have use Google voice port no problem, even recently
So there is a pattern that it works. We may be singing a different tune if there is widespread denial Google voice port after this going. Until then many will chance it.
3 People have hard time finding porting number from eBay.
I understand, but the risk is kind of high when you are ordering an $800+ phone, especially when the T-force specifically said that GV number would not qualify. Also, GV # port-in may work initially but get rejected after a few months according to a couple of posts in this thread.

Does this freedompop or H20 number work? anyone successful with this?
I used freedompop number myself for port-in and the promo was applied successfully the same day. If you activate freedompop GSM, it is on AT&T network and no issues on port-in. All you need after activation (GSM) is chatting with rep online to obtain account and pin information.

Hi, you seem to have the math figured out, so I'm hoping you can help. I have a similar question but:
Magenta 1.0 20 % hookup 8 lines:
Line 1 & 2 Paid
Line 3-6 Free
Line 7 &8 Paid $ Free BOGO Costco $300 deal
I belive I'm at $112, and will get the 9th line via AAL. I was told I can't got to MGNTA2 yet since my billing cycle is 26th so maybe it'll be MAGENTA9 first then manually ask to switch to MGNTA9. I was told that upon switching the numbers will be weird until the system settles all the discounts, etc.
Thanks.
Not quite sure what you're seeking help with but ...

3 paid lines: $70 + $50 + $20 = $140 - %20 hookup = $112. [edit for 3 paid lines]
However many free lines you add on top of this, they're free so they don't impact the above price!

When I updated between old Magenta and new Magenta, they set the switch to happen with the next billing cycle because a mid-billing switch was more problematic for reasons I don't remember. There's always a worry with a change but once my new billing cycle happened, my price stayed the same so hookup plus free lines moved over as expected. And I didn't have any weird numbers nor had to wait for the system to work its way through so you've got nothing to worry about.

No doubt risk.
But we have a situation here where people are struggling, begging for port numbers. Most of the other port in revenue such as Freedom pop and such are also risky as they can be from T-Mobile also. Only surefire and reasonably price as of now are cricket and visible. They are going fast.
Someone should create a wiki of a reliable port in source, cost, effort.

Things on our side is.
1)Google voice has always work for me. I can use that excuse
2)If the port was not valid for the promo, it should have rejected it flat out, not seeing the promo applied today and gone a month later.
3) Do the promo via chat. Let them confirm the promo is valid

Thanks! Hopefully the offer lasts a little longer. Don't feel comfortable calling to port in when I don't have the physical SIM in hand yet.
No need to worry about not having physical sim in hand. As long as the new phone number is created and you can see it in your account, you can go ahead and order a new phone, trade-in, and port-in a qualified number.

I saw the same but didn't complete the order as I didn't see anything mention about free line, is this normal that we don't see this being free? Just wondering how many ordered online vs call in.
NVM, looks like it cannot be done online, has to be via CS rep.
Yes it's normal that online will show $25/mo. Then you should receive a text the following day that you received the line promotion. I am confident this time around as i got my free line on dec 2020

Does Google Voice port-in specifically being mentioned as not qualifying not mean anything? https://i.imgur.com/wm7BiXU.png

It might've worked in the past when there was no such restriction mentioned for GV but now that they call it out specifically as not qualifying, the risk of it actually not qualifying seems astronomically high. Heck, I'd even spring for a $30 AT&T prepaid plan if I couldn't find a cheaper port-in option.

I agree with that. I did google voice and I think it will work and my promo is accepted as of yesterday but in hindsight and if I would have read the whole OP on Reddit I would not have chanced it over a few bucks. I do think it went through though

Check you tmobile account through website. Under notification you will see the promo is dropped for ported GV line.GV lines do not qualify. Have first hand experience.

It appears it does, but in a month you will have to deal with making multiple calls to get it corrected. don't know at that time it will as the promo might not be valid.

Rest its up to you.

I miss when we used to get a number for around $3 on eBay. Now, it's so hard to get one, and that's why I used the number I got with a $30 HSN Tracfone LG phone . I was going to unlock the phone after a year, but I kissed it goodbye. Now, I am stuck with an useless Tracfone LG w/o any service.

Is the Galaxy A11 one of the phones you get free if you add the free line and have no port in?

Not to mention the lost of a major carrier and all its cheap mvno as a port in alternative.
