Meh! They are the old Irwin style. It's no deal. Go with the screw tipped 18-piece Daredevil bits from Bosch for the same price. From 1/4" to 1-1/2" https://www.homedepot.com/p/Bosch...e-DSB5018P

Great deal. I usually end up paying this much for 2-3 bits at best. Nice to see a quality bit set at a more than reasonable price.

any benefit to spade bits vs a drill bit?
I obviously dont have a 1" drill bit, but for smaller items is there a difference?
These are most commonly used for wood if you want to clear excess wood out or a larger area than you typically would with a twist bit. Twist bits are primarily used for metal, but you can also use them on wood. The differences in bits when it comes to wood is going to determine how clean the hole is and how much potential splintering there may be when you drill. Of course the operator and techniques applied can also determine these things. If you're doing 1" holes in wood you may want to consider an auger bit. If it's soft wood, use an Irwin auger and if it's hard wood, go with a Jennings auger.
Interestingly enough, this vlogger indicates that the bosch and the diablo paddle bits are both made in the same factory and are essentially the same bit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGalk0yjGIU
He does indicate that the bosch daredevils possibly have better QC vs. the Diablo Speed Demons.
Now I'm off to go tell Project Farm to perform a paddle bit showdown....

I ultimately went with the Diablo set for $10 more and have not been disappointed. They cut through wood like butter.
