Many of the people in the thread couldn't get that price depending on their zip code. I've never had any luck with brickseek and YMMV deals on slickdeals. Every time I go to get a deal, the store's inventory is wrong and they didn't have any in stock.
I fully ignore YMMV threads. I never have luck with them in my area. I think some unemployed people spend all their time on slickdeals and snipe deals, then resell them on facebook marketplace or something.
$240 for two 4x8 racks is a great deal.
When pricing them out, this deal, given the quality and thickness of steel is actually very good. Most kits that get you close to this price range, require you to buy plywood for the base, while this kit comes with the steel grate base and extra hanging hooks that are very useful.
I bought a bunch of those black totes with the yellow lids and this totally free'd up all the floor space in my garage. I'm so happy I did this.

It was tough to put it up by myself. I broke a few bolts, and I blame it on the product only to learn that the holes I drilled weren't nearly big enough.
The one glaring con is bottom is will bend if it get too heavy and pulled away from the edges. I anchor the edges with zip ties. All and all, I rather spend 109 on this. It's a huge price different.
Consider that overhead storage puts load on wood frame, and in fact the weight limit from manual of this deal says 600lb weight limit
"WARNING, DO NOT EXCEED THE WEIGHT LIMITS
4' x 8' Frame 600 lbs. 3' x 8' Frame 500 lbs. 2' x 8' Frame 400 lbs. 4' x 4' Frame 300 lbs."

These are the shelves I got (cost about the same as overhead on sale.) Each holds the same volume of stuff, but weight limit is 1,000lb of stuff, and the load goes on your concrete slab, not on the wood frame. The shelves were also super easy to put together, compared to finding stud, measuring, working above head, etc.

FWIW: You can also find discarded futon frames and mount they work very well. Easiest I found is using a few nuts/bolts attach slotted angle and to use construction screws for the rafters/wall. Most of the mounting tabs are in the perfect locations,
So no, I would say right now it's not cheaper to build it yourself.

This slickdeal is $240 for two 4x8 racks. So that's $120 each if you look at it that way.

Just under 2 weeks. That's honestly too close for my comfort, do you have a friend or family you can send it to? I didn't check, maybe they have a pickup in store option? Or you can send it to work if you ask your boss?
