That appears to be a YMMV clearance price back in 2018. The Blue Hawk racks are no longer sold at Lowes. These were most likely clearanced because of the 25% steel tariff imposed by Trump back in March 2018.

Many of the people in the thread couldn't get that price depending on their zip code. I've never had any luck with brickseek and YMMV deals on slickdeals. Every time I go to get a deal, the store's inventory is wrong and they didn't have any in stock.

I fully ignore YMMV threads. I never have luck with them in my area. I think some unemployed people spend all their time on slickdeals and snipe deals, then resell them on facebook marketplace or something.

I just checked the lowes website now. The Monsterrax and Gladiator 4x8 rack are $152($179 reg) and $159.99 each. That's $300- $320 for 2 racks, and no hangers or accessories included. So I don't know what you're talking about.

$240 for two 4x8 racks is a great deal.

I got this deal last time it was offered and it's great. Installed it by myself, I used an A frame ladder to hold one side of the cross beam while I bolted in the other side.

When pricing them out, this deal, given the quality and thickness of steel is actually very good. Most kits that get you close to this price range, require you to buy plywood for the base, while this kit comes with the steel grate base and extra hanging hooks that are very useful.

I bought a bunch of those black totes with the yellow lids and this totally free'd up all the floor space in my garage. I'm so happy I did this.

Find the studs. Mark them. Pilot hole. Drill in. Test for weight.

Have'em, like'em. Install by yourself is a real PITA but doable. Took me way longer to figure out good bracket mounting points for L install to work /line up flush then actually mounting. My only gripe is the shorter crossbeams at ends seem wimpy in comparison to other parts and I'd be weary hanging anything over 25lb with provided hooks without it bending edge lip the hook grabs onto or twisting whole beam.

I have this one for $109.

It was tough to put it up by myself. I broke a few bolts, and I blame it on the product only to learn that the holes I drilled weren't nearly big enough.

The one glaring con is bottom is will bend if it get too heavy and pulled away from the edges. I anchor the edges with zip ties. All and all, I rather spend 109 on this. It's a huge price different.
I think you're missing that this is a 2 pack, because $11 extra for hardware that doesn't break, grates that don't bend, and accessory hooks sounds like the better buy to me.

You are correct. For some reasons I thought it was 2 4x4 which is 1 4x8.

I thought about this option, but since floor space wasn't as big a consideration, I went for shelves.

Consider that overhead storage puts load on wood frame, and in fact the weight limit from manual of this deal says 600lb weight limit
"WARNING, DO NOT EXCEED THE WEIGHT LIMITS

4' x 8' Frame 600 lbs. 3' x 8' Frame 500 lbs. 2' x 8' Frame 400 lbs. 4' x 4' Frame 300 lbs."

https://www.costco.com/tennsco-st...44529.html
These are the shelves I got (cost about the same as overhead on sale.) Each holds the same volume of stuff, but weight limit is 1,000lb of stuff, and the load goes on your concrete slab, not on the wood frame. The shelves were also super easy to put together, compared to finding stud, measuring, working above head, etc.

When considering the weight capacity though, you have to consider what you'll do with the floor space underneath. In my case, I can fully walk underneath mine and can park my sedan and CUV under it as well. But I use the floor space to store my bikes and riding lawn mower. Having that extra floor space is great.

Good deal as its a ready to go system.

FWIW: You can also find discarded futon frames and mount they work very well. Easiest I found is using a few nuts/bolts attach slotted angle and to use construction screws for the rafters/wall. Most of the mounting tabs are in the perfect locations,

Do people get these over regular shelving because they don't have a big enough garage? Trying to understand the benefit of this vs. typical metal garage shelving.
I have so many thing in the garage that are longer then 2 feet, this is where is shines. It's great for chairs, golf clubs, bats bags, my kids rediculous 24v car they driver every few weeks, Coolers. We homebrew so I have these large kettles. Really impressed with them.

Is this cheaper than just getting a bunch of 2x4 and plywood and building it myself?

Before Covid I would say yes, but with lumber prices being so crazy right now. I would think you would want about 8 2x4's to make a single unit(I'm counting on puting 2 2x4's spanning the ceiling joists). 2x4's by 8 ft are like $8 each right now. So that's about $64 and 1/2" plywood is about $45 for a 4x8 sheet right now. So that's about $110 in just lumber. Then by the time you buy the hardware, you'll be at $120 which is what this deal costs.

So no, I would say right now it's not cheaper to build it yourself.

Thanks for giving me the current prices! Very helpful. Just to confirm it is $110 per rack you mean or is that for 2 racks (like this deal comes with).

This slickdeal is $240 for two 4x8 racks. So that's $120 each if you look at it that way.

I ordered on 10/2/2020, they shipped it out on 10/7/2020 via Fedex. It arrived on 10/13/2020.

Just under 2 weeks. That's honestly too close for my comfort, do you have a friend or family you can send it to? I didn't check, maybe they have a pickup in store option? Or you can send it to work if you ask your boss?
