I real woodworker might consider that the tensile strength of steel is needed to make something as cheaply, compactly and efficient as possible. A real woodworker realizes that wood is not the one and only thing things can be made of. A real woodworker may want to put his woodworking efforts to something nicer than a storage rack.
If you have this much wood/lumber u might be rich.
Last time these were this price they got 62 thumbs up. For this price it's far cheaper to buy these than try to build anything with today's lumber prices!

Having three in an 8" span is just a waste. 8'. The recommended span is 4-6'. An 8' board even if the shelves are spaced at 4 ony leaves 2' hanging off each ends. That will not cause bowing. Bearing at a 6' or even 4' even if a board is 10 or 12' long really leaves not much room for bowing as the center for the board is supported and any weight on top of the stack will keep the center down tight and flat. Anything above a 1X will not sag at the ends that way

I use 4 in a 16' span and have no problems with bowing the wood even when they may be hanging close to 4' off a bracket. Ten footers the way I am laid out hang about that distance over the edge of the support and I have had no problems.

If you do have some piece of lumber particularly floppy just start out the stack with a flat one and you are good to go.
i dunno, perhaps it's just the shitty dimensional lumber i get here in the NE... i stopped using the local lumber yards because it's just a hassle to deal with lumber that looks great banded down and crap the next day. it's so damn time consuming to get dimensional lumber from Lowe's/HD, sifting through their piles of trash... but the results are just better.

i'm sure my concerns aren't justified, but hey, maybe it'll make me sleep better at night Stick Out Tongue

thanks for the input, appreciate it.

Crappy dimensional lumber, which most all of it seems to be anymore, is going to bow the way it wants even if supported it's whole length, it is the nature of the beast. Hanging 2 to 4' foot off a support is not going to cause any bow in a 2X

Storing it on the floor can cause problems as you are trapping moisture and you get unequal drying and moisture content.

Hmm, wonder if this will work for snowboards with mounted bindings? In for one, so I guess I'll find out.

reviews say ~6'' between the shelves, so unless your bindings are HUGE when folded, you'll be fine Smilie

personally i use Burton wall mounts, gets the board flush and you can put them anywhere. we also have a ton of boards, so covering a wall in these looks pretty dope Wink gets pricey though is you have a bunch of boards.

100 pound capacity - https://www.lowes.com/pd/Style-Se...et/4651461 [lowes.com]

They will work fine for a few boards. I have 4 of them holding about $100 worth of poplar - 3 boards that I have left https://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima...lies/frown.gif Bora looks a lot better but it wasn't on sale when I needed a storage solution. Considering that I don't have vertical space on the wall I would cut them in half instead of buying 2 sets and mount all 4 as one unit - 1 bracket on every other stud. This would give pretty good support for boards up to 10 feet
These at Home Depot have a 200 lb capacity for a few cents more.

I was hoping to fit two boards on each shelf, base to base. We'll see. Maybe shifting them left/right so the bindings facing each other interlock.

I do use those wall mounts to display boards, but I'm looking for something more for storage and keeping the boards out of the way in the off-season. I work at Burton in VT, so I can get those mounts at a pretty good discount. Wink

Yup! LedgerLok is the gold standard in structural screws. The shank is just shy of 1/4" but stronger than a 1/2" lag bolt.

I saw a DIY video with a ladder hanging from the bottom rung, loved the idea. Someone else mentioned in this thread. Still waiting to finish drywalling and painting in garage, then will hang the unit I bought... 4 months ago? Will grab another if local HD has them in stock so I can get 11% off on top of it.

Anyone has recommendation home made lumber rack vs this one ?
Base on the lumber price I guess I can save like $15 for material....
Also do you recommend buying one pair or two ? I'm worrying about warping. Mainly put 8feet lumber on it through.

These were worth it when they were $15 each. At this price I'd say no-way.

600lbs is a surprisingly small amount of lumber.

That's 36 8 foot 2x6s for example.
