Yes, it would. Actually with the Yamaha Receiver at Costco that goes on sale often. It makes a great system for $1000-$1,100 for movies and music.
Also the SVS Prime satellite system [svsound.com] for $200 more would be another good option with 4.5" drivers and a 12" subwoofer. They offer a 45 day trial with free return shipping.
SVS but if the $250 is an issue the ML is a great small room at home system.
