I have the Gaggia Classic pro and love it. I have never owned a Breville, but my in laws have a Breville Barista Express that I've used on a few occasions. I don't think it pulls nearly as good a shot as my Gaggia. Considering Gaggia is quite a bit less expensive and has a such a great reputation for durability, I think it's the way to go.

Breville Espresso machines are pretty well-made (supposedly internal Italian parts and assembled in China) and are of great value due to their price points. I have the Barista Express and had an issue with the low temperature hot water at the extraction (175-180 degree average) head and Breville ended up sending me a replacement and the machine has been working "perfectly" for the past 6 months (brew temperature is around 190 degrees; makes a world of difference in freshly freshly ground and brewed beans).

Breville's customer service is top-notch and very helpful. The only "downside" of their customer service department is the wait time. When I called, 100% of the time, I received a recording where it's best to leave your phone number and calls are returned between 45 - 90 minutes. So, you'll have to be "ready" when they call back. They are quite helpful and very fair from there.

Breville refurbished machines are excellent, but with such a small price difference I'd recommend going new.

I have a Rancilio Silvia and really love it, but I was heavily considering the Gaggia Classic Pro. They're both semi-automatic machines. You will also need a grinder though if you go that route. I picked up a Eureka Mignon Specialita from espresso coffee shop. Cheapest electric burr grinder recommended for espresso is probably $200+, so gotta factor that in when considering the Gaggia.
Does the Rancilio ever go on sale anywhere? It's mentioned a couple of times in this thread and it's the first I've heard of it, but I've been passively monitoring espresso machine deals for some time.

Best Buy also has the same sale. I called them and asked for %20 off match from bbb and they honored. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/brev...Id=6291169

These are decent machines. I'm just too much of a traditionalist to purchase an espresso machine from an Australian brand. I want my Espresso machines from Europe, my cars from Germany, my Sushi from Japan, and my chicken wings from America...
how about your women?

Not really, it's such a niche market that some of the brands don't really ever seem to go on sale. I got mine new from whole latte love for $725 w/ a $10 coupon and they didn't charge tax. Your best bet for a sale would be around black Friday but I wouldn't expect any discount over $100. If you can purchase it outside of north america it's significantly cheaper but transporting it into the states will likely negate that. These things are marketed as having commercial parts so you would probably have pretty good luck buying used off Craigslist, Facebook market, or ebay. I'd avoid going with a refurbished unit from any of the online espresso sellers based off a bunch of forum posts. Seems like you're just getting a returned unit that's barely been inspected and paying a premium for it. Mine as well save a good bit and buy from CL at that point.

Silvia is a nice machine, but I am not sure about 'for life' part. Many people who buy Silvia switch to HX or dual boiler machine within a couple of years.
You misunderstand. "Buy it for life" merely means buying something that can last a lifetime. The Breville will not. The Silvia likely will as it is durable, uses common rocker switches (easy to replace even if parts stop being made), it's been made for a very long time, and parts are widely available. It has nothing to do with someone deciding to move on.

Bought the Breville Barista Pro a few months ago. Overall, very happy. It's a good machine for the price. I would buy it again. I went Pro, as it heats up faster and includes a better steam wand than the Espress.

A few comments. It does pull a good shot. Controls are easy and simple to use. Grinder is 'okay'. Good enough to do the job on most Espresso beans. Machine can be a bit messy with dropping coffee when filling portafilter prior to tamp. I purchased a small dosing filter that helped a lot. Not a fan of the portafilter, so I'm looking to go bottomless soon and see if it helps.

I went through these options last December and ended up with the Bambino Plus. It has the espresso machine internals of the Pro without the grinder. The integrated grinder is just ok on these. I get a better grind quality from my 1zpresso hand grinder and even at an espresso setting I can grind a double shot in about 30-45 seconds. Even if you really want the Breville grinder I'd still get it separate so you can upgrade the espresso side or the grinder side later.
I did the same and got the bambino plus with the 20% and some bbb bucks or whatever they are called . Ended up an excellent deal. Love the machine highly recommend .

I would wait if you can. These machines were bumped up by $100 during covid, now being adjusted to what they were and claim it is $100 off.

Did you have to send back the old one?
Yes. After explaining the exact process of how I checked for water temperature (which proved I wasn't missing or short-cutting anything), Breville authorized the UPS return of my Breville Barista to review and test the machine. Ultimately and quite expeditiously, they actually sent back a new replacement. The replacement has been working perfectly. Correct temperature at the brew head makes a world of difference in espresso shots! Pretty amazing machine.
I have purchased other Breville units and I appreciate their quality parts (overall) as their service representatives are extremely customer-focused, professional, knowledgeable & helpful. Hopefully, with proper care, I hope this machine can last 4-5 years and then I'll likely get another and higher-end Breville coffee machine.

You really gotta try Korean chicken wings and then decide on which you now like better...
