Great laptop, I own one.

HOWEVER it doesn't support HiDPI (high definition) scaling on external monitors. It's been a pain for myself and many users. In practice this means that the image on an external monitor is grainy. There's a thread on MacRumors discussing the issue and it's widespread with all M1 powered devices.
I'll wait for 2nd gen with more application support
typing this comment from my Macbook M1.
the naysayers don't know what they're talking about. this is the best laptop i've ever owned. I own an iPhone and haven't used a laptop regularly for a few years, but signing into my apple ID allows for a pretty seamless transition with the touch ID. this thing runs cool all the time. there is literally no grill or way to get to the innards anywhere, which means no fan to block and overheat your shit.

i know i'll get the downvotes from the pc master race, but their downvotes sustain me.

if you have the budget for a great laptop with equally great battery life and iOS integration, buy this. if you don't, or you're salty about macs, then don't.

i like the laptop.

Man, I know the 14" M2 is coming out, but if you have the Costco coupon (check your email), this is a solid deal at $799 after coupon.

This is SD, not Reddit.

Macs do have the integration aspect down pat. It's the UI that I'm trying to get over since this is the first Mac that has me looking hard at it. On Windows, I click Start ,start typing the first few letters of the app and the list of applications zeroes in for me to launch. On a Mac, I click Finder, then click Find to do the same. It's just one more step, but things like not being able to have context menus everywhere with a right click just doesn't seem to be very efficient for productivity.

This price is tempting. I just wonder how much difference 16GB would make for video editing.
On the mac, you can click Launchpad in the dock and start typing, and it pulls up apps with the letters you typed.

CMD + Space gets you a killer quick search feature called spotlight, you'll love it. Windows search was basically a knockoff of it.

Can anyone with an M1 confirm the usability of Sidecar with Photoshop? I was reading that people were having issues with it

Thanks ! This is great news, but 2 Qs here if anyone can answer:
1. Will costco CC have additional warranty years ?
2. How to get the $100 off $500 ???
I just got them to issue a promo code in chat. 10 minute wait, they asked for my address and membership number and quick $100 saved on an apple product - slicker and standard colors available much faster!

I know 8gb is plenty for 90% of the stuff that people do... but if I want to do the occasional 1 nonstop hour of 4k video encoding for final uploading to YouTube in 4k, will 16gb Macbook Pro M1 with 16gb make any noticeable difference?

Thanks!
How does such a normal question get 6 downvotes?

You should be fine unless you have other programs open as well, then 16gb will be helpful. May want to upgrade to 16gb for future-proofing purposes as the RAM is not upgradeable later.

So Mac is now full on M1 M2 chips it seems... Intel is no more on Mac?...
You can still buy a Xenon Mac Pro for $8,000+
And some Macs and MacBook Pro there's a few still around.

But when an 8 Core M1 is delivering performance better than a desktop 8700K I'd go with M1

is the microcenter one any different from amazon/costco/b&h one?
Don't buy from B&H I bought it last week and tried to get them to price match micro center and they told me no - then said they wouldn't accept the return because I opened it already even though I've had it for 2 days ... crooks. Burned me as a customer forever and I have spent probably close to $20k on that website in the past 5+ years.

Use Costco for the warranty and return period or even Best Buy at least they price match MicroCenter.
