QC issues, terrible display(awful 22ms+ response times visible ghosting 250 nit 60% sRGB) not great thermals. Generally don't recommend
I wanted to love this laptop so much. I was trying to go from a desktop to a laptop, and it seemed to be the magical box that was powerful, but portable. I understand I was unicorn hunting, but this thing had more rules than a Mogwai. You couldn't use it with a dock with the lid closed.. The air flow was designed to have the lid open. Earlier builds of this model had a problem with using a dock that would power USB-C. It would fry something inside and your machine was dead.

I'm hoping that down the road, this is the machine it was meant to be.
I have the M15 and I can't recommend Asus. Too many minor details overlooked. Occasionally the mouse will screw up and feel like there's a third finger there causing it to jitter. May be a different laptop, but Asus QC has me second thinking their stuff. Fantastic price for their hardware...

ASUS is releasing solid products but these laptops and PCs seem to be more like capitalizing on marketing efforts and brand names than actual quality.

Yeah, the current gen model with the 5th gen Ryzen and rtx 3060 addresses most of those issues and I snagged an open box model for only $150 more than this. Worth it.

Great laptop, got it in November and couldn't be happier. Great solid build quality compact and games great on AAA titles.

Display is fine. People who complain about the refresh rate need to get their eyes checked.

I use this in my lap and docked.

Does it get hot and loud when gaming? Yes! Should it? Absolutely. It's a beast, uses a lot of power and it has to go somewhere. Don't complain about the limitation of physics people.

I obviously can't comment on QC as I only have one that has been without issue.

I would definitely buy it again.

It really doesn't use much power it's a 60w GPU aka literally laptop 1650 wattage. If you think display is fine then that's a example of you needing to get your eyes checked, not others silly. But it's good you didn't have QC issues as that really kills a laptop

So, I'm deciding between keeping the G14 or M15 - both purchased locally on FB Marketplace. The G14 is sleek and light but with great build quality, and has incredible battery life one you do the Reddit tweaks. Its display is okay, not great, but the speakers are tremendous. The 4900hs is crazy fast but super hot unless you do the simple edit to prevent turbo boost. Now it never reaches 80°C. Of course, the 2060 max-Q is only decent at gaming.

The M15 is also sleek and light for a 15-incher (4.2 lbs), but the chassis creaks more. The speakers are good, not great. Battery life is probably half of the g14, but that's not to say it's terrible! I've had gaming laptops with way less than the M15. The 240hz screen is definitely a step above the g14 in brightness, refresh, and response time...but gaming anywhere near that level of FPS is making the M15 roast. I've tried numerous tweaks including the nice option to undervolt in the Asus bios but that little devil puts out some serious 🔥. The 2070 max-Q is a nice step up from the 2060 max-Q, but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to enjoy it.

Sorry for the long post but I'm trying to work this out for myself. If you are reading this and saying that you'd love one of these, PM me because I might sell you the one you like more and keep the other. 😁
I would get the M15 if it's the 2070/240hz model. The 1660ti/144hz M15 has a different screen that's not as good.

Yeah, it's the 2070 max-Q with 240 hz screen and 3ms response.

I forgot to mention that the g14 and m15 both charge over USB-C which is nice in theory, but forget gaming with the GPU while charging that way. If you're using these laptops for non-gaming purposes traveling, that's probably more useful to you.

All anyone has to do is google "asus rog laptop stuttering" to know exactly what they're in for. Have fun lowering the voltage on your CPU, cache and GPU just to hit 85C as soon as you load your favorite game in 1080p low graphics.

Laptops make crap gaming PCs. I've had so many people bring me these crappy laptops and tell me they're FPS goes from 150 to 20 and starts stuttering regardless how crappy and old the game. Look it up, it's an issue on all their laptops. They don't address it, it's been on every major release they've done in the last 4 years. Everyone will give you 5 different fixes for it and none will work.

You'll reinstall windows, you'll undervolt the laptop, you'll get extra cooling fans, you'll update the bios, you'll bang your head against the desk for hours after none of this works and you still have the issue.

Gaming laptops suck, end of story, especially their ones with the 2060 heatboxes installed.

Don't head my warnings, buy them, remember what I said and laugh for me later. ApplauseApplause

Unfortunately this laptop is plagued with QC issues, as others have already noted, the screen, build quality and overall thermal limitations leave something to be desired. It might be best to wait until gen 2 is more mainstream, and trying an open box option, however with that being said, power limitations to the GPU (I know this is widespread this year) might end up being the killer to this one as well. Heat management and limitations in design, functionality and overall longevity will always be an issue.

This laptop is great for the price. Unless you are used to playing on expensive desktop setups, you won't have issues with the display. My desktop is a 3600x/2060Super with a 144hz 1ms monitor and this laptop runs the same games at the same frames 1080p high/max graphics. Even runs My Oculus Rift S at a slight performance drop.

Will 1600 get you a better laptop? Yes. Will 1100 get you a better one? No. End of story

This is a good laptop for the money, the screen is fine, and I've enjoyed it, but it does run hot and the battery isn't great. I have a desktop already, so I wish I had gone for a productivity laptop with a webcam and long battery life.

I recently picked up the 2021 model and I'm really liking it. Everything seems well put together and it runs the AAA games that I tried at very solid framerates (60+ at 1440p). Battery life is good - 10 hrs plus for regular use, and everything functions as it should. Personally, I chose to spend the extra $350 to get the latest, but this seems like a good deal if you're budget is a little tight. IMO there's nothing else with this much power in such a small form factor.

Bummer there's no webcam, but I got an external one that works fine.

Did you follow Reddit tweaks to get better battery life? Mine can last 6 to 7 for doing light tasks such as watching youtube or office, I think it is good enough with a gaming laptop

Sorry I dont understand why people complain about the asus M15 2070 max Q. I play warzone at 85 fps with performance mode. I attach a 34 inch monitor , keyboard wireless usb, mouse wireless usb and play with xbox controller (bluetooth). I play really good and only 85 degreess C. It really its a great laptop I plan to sell it soon so I can buy a laptop with 3080 or 3070 video card.

Asus ROG, please go back to the old days of massive thick brick gaming laptops that we love. They were thicc, but well cooled and ventilated. Though hours of heaving gaming sessions, I never had overheat nor throttle issue. And they were durable as tanks. Leave the thin and light to true road warriors.

Buying an open-box laptop is just inviting being hacked. Key-loggers can easily be installed on Windows laptops and returned to the store for a potential victim to later purchase.
