Good article over at The Verge on this device. As another poster aluded to, it looks like you are buying into a dead Tivo platform if you jump on this...

The same YouTube TV that keeps raising their prices to the point where they defeat the whole purpose of cutting the cord? The same YouTube TV that played hardball with Roku to the point where Roku took the app out of its store?

Compared to what, Apple? I run android devices on all my TVs because they're capable of running sideloaded apps, and there's lots for android. TiviMate and Syncler are my go to's for live TV and on demand, respectively, though an Emby share can be nice as well. Does Apple even have apps capable of playing IPTV? If so, I highly doubt they're as polished as TiviMate and I seriously doubt Apple would ever allow an app like Syncler on their locked down platform.

I was skeptical when this was posted a month ago for $35. I wanted to play 4k UHD direct rips from actual discs. I was told it would play anything, and I was prepared to return it if it didn't. It plays the 4k mkv files flawlessly. It also has no problem with all the streaming service, BUT the only issue was I had a problem with the power adapter that came with it, and it would reset randomly. I ran it off a power bank and it had no problems. Overall it has some serious decoding power inside, so for this price it's hard to pass by if you want a cheap streamer for services or for high quality files.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how is it with just the regular YouTube app? Same?
I don't do a lot with just the YouTube app so it is probably better for someone else to respond on that one.

I've been a big TiVo fan over the years but I have to admit I am a bit disappointed with the Stream 4k due to the fact that it doesn't play nice with YouTube tv. For the last several months I get video freeze with both live and recorded programs while the audio continues to play. This seems fairly common for other YouTube tv subscribers.

YouTube tv is my households go to app which makes my two TiVo Stream 4ks pretty much useless and I have purchased other streaming devices as a result.
Didn't realize this was just YT TV related, but my I replaced my parents Stream 4k because they were having so much problems with YT TV. I just thought the device sucked in general, didn't realize it was app specific. Still, YT TV wins that battle every time. Easy to change stick to another.

I b ought one back when they were introduced and have been using it steadily since. The regular YouTube app runs fine and this pairs nicely with my Plex server. Streams the Plex servers Live TV and DVR with no issue either. Netflix and Prime video also no issue. Couldn't get Mame working properly though and I haven't tried other games like I did with my CCWGTV. I love the remote much better than the CCWGTV just fits right.

this may be a dead end product but works for me presently. I'm in for one.

Tivo sucks now. When they were sold it was the end of TiVo that was awesome. It's been all downhill for years now.

Used to be the biggest TiVo evangelist since 1999, haven't recommended any TiVo products in probably 5 years.

Save your money.
Sadly I agree. I had a TiVo Series 2 and 3. A few more products after too. Such a bummer. If they adopted streaming better with OTA they could have been a leader.

Does this act like a chromecast and allow my android and iPhone to chromecast content?
It does.

I was happy for about 2 months with mine when I got it on release however many months ago. All of a sudden it stopped outputting sound to my tv. Factory resets of the device, my TV, my sound bar - nothing fixed the issue.

I ended up getting an Apple TV when the new one was released and enjoy it - moves between apps much faster and although the price is obviously 7x higher it works for me.

The ability to air drop hockey games onto my TV from my MacBook is another big plus - stupid YouTube TV dropping local Fox/Bally Sports.

It's the same. The device is slow and the BT is broken. I bought a couple of these to replace Firesticks because the UI is so much better. But I went back to the Firestick due to its overall speed and reliability.

I'm a huge Android TV fan (Nvidia Shields and Chromecast Android TV devices all over my house).

Is Tivo dead? Maybe. Will this get updates? Maybe not. Is it better than a Chromecast/Shield? Doubtful. Does it screw up YT TV? I suppose (I use Sling).

But for $29, the performance cannot be beat. In my opinion, it's the 3rd best Android TV device, and it's only $29??? I'm buying a few more at this price point. I can't stand the Fire Stick UI by the way. I figure if I get a couple of years out of this Tivo Stream, it's a great value. I've had zero issues with mine since I bought it.

there is a reason why the price keeps dropping. It's because it's a sh!t device..

TiVo denies it is a dead platform, but there may be a new version on the way:

Some Walmart's are stocking a ONN android tv streaming stick for $25.. It could make a interesting alternative to this, abandoned product..
Does anybody know if the power/volume buttons on the remotes for these two new ONN devices control the power/volume of the TV?

After they fixed the bug that was causing a constant reboot, this device is pretty damn solid for a rec room or outdoor tv that isn't your main tv in the house. Great UI and ability to add third party apps. Also hides behind the tv . Great for a bar or deck tv.

I bought a few at just a few bucks more a few weeks ago, and added some wired network adapters. I was getting tired of my Firestick 4Ks not having all the apps natively, having their lame new interface, and a variety of smaller issues (like the loud sound during start up).

Having another Android TV in the house at a new version of the OS than these Tivo devices is a little frustrating, but they work consistently well for me.
