Amazon "used" could mean it was dropped and damaged the box or the forklift ran into the pallet or a number of other warehouse accidents and it could still be brand new, especially if it says like new or very good.

There's an on/off button on the cord, but it would be fairly simple to cut the wire on both sides of the switch and splice it together for an always-on solution.
Yes it definitely is a good option
It looks like the remote is for a phone to take selfies, I don't think it controls the light. Looks like it has controls on the wire for the light.
