I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

Downgraded CSR on Monday 7/12 then went in today (7/16) at the branch to apply for CSP and I was not able to apply. They said that it still shows I have CSR in the system. He even tried changing the profile or something but still was not able to. He said to wait one billing cycle or if there is a change to the calendar month from when you downgraded.

I guess I will have to apply online.
The in branch promo is still valid as of today.
I downgraded 7/9 to the Unlimited and on the 12th applied online. I was rejected so tried in the bank and the Preferred did not show up as an option, I called reconsideration line and was told it was because I had an unpaid balance on the Reserve (next autopay date was 8/1). If I paid that would clear my account so I could apply for the Preferred but it would take a day or two to be reflected in my account. I paid the balance online yesterday morning and as of today I show zero balance. I called the bank later today and it still does not show Preferred as an option. I will keep trying and report back.
Damn, I was about to contact chase to ask why I got approved two cards. Now you made me think twice. Guess I will wait until I receive both cards and see if I can get 100K bonus terms in printing first.
Basically, it looks like Chase has most of its bonus safeguards built into its application system. Indeed, their application system is so fraught with checks and double-checks that it often blocks eligible applications for indecipherable reasons (that even the customer service agents cannot figure out).
Once you're in, their system seems to focus on whether you subsequently meet the minimum spend criteria. If you have $4K in qualifying purchases, the system immediately awards you the bonus. They don't do another check of whether you should not have qualified for the card in the first place.
When you applied, did it say 80k on the branch's computer screen, and did the app say 80k once you were approved? I just applied today in branch and the offer stated 80k + $50 grocery + $95AF waived. Once approved, the new card in my wallet app shows "Spend $4k to earn 80k points"
Yes. It did and as you are seeing, it still does. It will say 80K. You will get 80K and then an additional 20K listed separately. There is a screen shot in this thread from before if you are inclined to look it up.

EDIT: You'll need to return back to your banker to make sure he annotates your account for this to work. Also, it's just one data point (actually, there's a confirmation by one other SD member), so YMMV.

See attached.
To date, Chase still hasn't updated its app for in-branch applications. (The Chase app does show the 100K for people who applied online.)
7/12 Monday - Downgraded CSR to Freedom Flex
7/16 Friday - Went into Culver City, Los Angeles branch to apply and was denied because CSR was still under my profile. Suggested to the banker to create a new profile for me it worked. Was able to apply for CSP and instantly approved 100k bonus and no AF + $50 Grocery credit.
Also the lady called into customer support in which they confirmed 7/17 is the last day for in branch no AF fee offer.

That explanation sounds fishy to me.
When I downgraded my CSP to Freedom, all of the outstanding balances transferred to the newly setup Freedom account. Even the autopay option transferred to my Freedom account, I didn't need to reset it.
Trash Customer Service. Waited over the phone for 8 + hours in total to finally tell me they were unable to verify my identity! They ended up telling me that I could apply again for this credit card if I'd like. I laughed at them and say "you're freaking kidding me?!" I'm sticking with Amex: at least they know how to handle their customers.
I'm surprised that they told you to reapply. AFAIK, your application would hit exactly the same roadblock if you attempted to reapply, since nothing would have changed in your application form.
When I encountered the same issue, all I had to do was send a copy of my driver's license and I was approved as soon as they received it. No reapplication. Sounds to me like you talked to a rookie agent.
P.S. Did you call the Customer Service number or the Reconsideration Line number. I find the Reconsideration Line to be faster and the agents there more knowledgeable than the general number. Reconsideration Line: (888) 270-2127
So I downgraded the regular free Sapphire card to Freedom Flex today. It is showing the change when I log in to Chase website. How long should I wait to apply for the CSP?
EDIT: You'll need to return back to your banker to make sure he annotates your account for this to work. Also, it's just one data point (actually, there's a confirmation by one other SD member), so YMMV.
I tried once more today at a different branch before closing and didn't have any luck. Tried to ask if they can put a note in my account for the promo and also the new profile trick that someone mentioned but didn't work. I usually don't have luck with these ymmv deals.

I honestly don't trust any Chase reps regardless of what department they work in. Back when there was a retention offer for the CSR, I called in and the retention rep told me I had a $250 retention credit available. I called back after not seeing the credit on my account and they told me to wait 2 billing cycles. After waiting 2 billing cycles, after not seeing it hit my account I called back and they told me that there was no such retention offer available on my account. Then, they sent me multiple letters indicating that there were no retention offers on my account. Such BS.

Absolutely! You hit the nail on the head.
It's a luck of the draw (or maybe Russian Roulette) when dealing with Chase's Customer Service. Some of the agents are very good. Others may have good intentions, but are nonetheless guilty of spreading misinformation.

Unfortunately, it is just luck. You find an agent who happens to know the answer (or know where to look for the answer) or you happen to deal with an agent who knows bumpkis.
The frustrating part is that you don't really know the parameters of any of these workaround solutions, so it's difficult to pursue the issue when the banker tells you that such solutions do not work. All you can do is to look for another banker and try again. The question is how many times do you try before giving up?

More than likely, you're in the same situation as a lot of people here have reported. The system simply has a block on your account. Unknown how long it will take to clear. Fortunately, there is a workaround.

And if that trick doesn't work, you can try to have your banker annotate your account. That has reportedly worked a couple of times.
