I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

Great information! I applied, received and charged $4k already (on the Saphire card) and have received all of my points. I already have a Freedom card. Is there another version of the Freedom card or another card I can downgrade to?
Thanks!
Doesn't matter if you already have a freedom card. you can multiple of the same cards. Just tell them you want to downgrade and they'll give you a list of cards you can downgrade to.

I JUST downgraded my CSP, I was looking in the FAQ that it'd take a month to get a Sapphire card removed from the system but someone in the comments earlier mentioned they downgraded and within 2 weeks they applied to and got approved for this deal. Is there a way to check WHEN I could start applying?
It takes a few days... just call a chase representative after one week and ask if your card has been officially downgraded.

So I am about to get my 100,000 points. I do not wish to renew the cost of the card in 9 months. I have a Chase freedom card and a Chase Amazon card as well. My questions are as follows:

How do I maximize points? If I take straight cash I get $900 or $1,000 correct?

If I want to use it for airlines and or hotels how do I do so and maximize?

Lastly if I don't use the points or I don't use all the points and it becomes the end of the year what do I do to cancel the card and keep the points if possible?

Thank you so much!!!
How to maximize points, cash and travel options: https://thepointsguy.com/guide/re...mum-value/

If your credit portfolio and history are reasonably well populated (combined credit limits/annual income, credit use ratio, average credit account history, etc.) then by all means, terminate the account at the end of one year. To avoid losing any UR points, simply combine them with your existing Chase Freedom UR account.

Note: Most people prefer a product change (downgrade) at the end of one year to preserve their credit card history.

EDIT:

Please note that if you choose the Pay Yourself Back option to redeem points, be careful to only choose purchases made after you met the minimum spend limit. That's to avoid creating a situation where you unqualify yourself from the bonus you just received. All purchases redeemed via the Pay Yourself Back option are ineligible for meeting the minimum spend limit.

Quick question, how to find out the credit card number if I just got approved? I want to use it now. Thanks a lot!
You can't but you can go to your mobile Chase app and add your new card to mobile wallet (eg apple pay) and/or paypal. Then do your transactions through either and you will be charged on your new chase card.

Great info here. Here's a question you may be able to help answer: I already have the Amex Gold as my primary card (great for dining rewards), but since it has a yearly fee I have been hesitant to get another somewhat overlapping card with another $95 in yearly fees (the Chas Sapphire).

Still the 100k bonus is obviously more than worth the $95 yearly fee -- except that I generally will not cancel or downgrade a card. Would you think it still makes sense to obtain this Sapphire with 100k bonus on an ongoing basis paying the annual fee AND still paying the Amex Gold?

For reference, I have a Chase Freedom card already and still intend on signing up for the Flex and Unlimited at some point in order to take advantage of those signup bonuses ($200 cash back).

My mindset is a long-term one, generally to maximize point value (I really haven't used any of the Amex points which are somewhere over 200k at this point). So I suppose it wouldn't be a terrible idea to maximize travel rewards via points with the Chase cards.

Any thoughts or guidance are much appreciated!

In the long term, the best way to maximize rewards is to do as many new card signup bonuses as possible.

You can easily rack up hundreds of thousands of points with Chase and Amex alone... plus thousands in SUBs from Citi, BoA, Cap One, and others.

The reward per dollar of spend will always be MUCH higher doing these than putting spend on a regular card even if it's in a category earning 3x-5x on the spend.

If you wish to do this you'll need to spend a little time learning the basic rules for each banks signups... (for example learning about 5/24 for Chase- or the once-per-lifetime rules for Amex, or the once-per-24/48 month ones for Citi, etc)

That'll help you determine the best order in which to do them... then how quickly you go from one to the next depends on the amount of spend you can sustain and pay off routinely.

If you have a spouse with good credit that opens up even more options where you can not only both do this, you can get extra bonuses in some cases by referring each other for cards.

As to annual fees- For any years after the signup bonis some are worth it, some are not.

For example there's a number of hotel cards with an AF between 49-99 a year- but usually they offer at least 1 free night (and sometimes status of some kind), so you can usually get more than the AF in value out of those.

Amex cards tend to have higher fees, and come with a bunch of random specific-services credits... if those are worth it depend in how much value you can get from the credits.

I don't find the Chase Sapphire Preferred worth its fee in current form (though rumors are they're revising the card soon).... I HAVE found the CSR worth it to this point- since net of its travel credit it's only $55/yr more than the CSP, but offers 3x on its categories instead of 2x, 1.5x in the portal instead of 1.25, and comes with a bunch of other potentially valuable perks... ($100 GE credit, Free Priority pass membership for you and 2 guests, free roadside assistance...and during Covid more things like free Dashpass and $60/yr doordash credits.

I've also found Citi Prestige worth paying for- as the 4th night free benefit can often pay for the cost of the card over the annual fee minus travel credits in a single use- and usually profitable in 2 uses.

But different folks get different value out of various credits, so somewhat YMMV there.

Anyone know if they are going to do a new promotion to replace the $50 grocery credit when signing up in branch? I know you can still get the first year waived but can't get the grocery credit anymore.

Went into store & applied on 7.21.2021.
No more $50 grocery credit Frown

Thanks! This is my first chase card, so I have to sign up first, but without the credit card number, I cannot sign up, it's like catch-22. Any work around?

Just to confirm, I have to cancel or downgrade my Sapphire Reserve in order to get the bonus for signing up for the preferred?
I like the reserve so much I was gonna keep it, and just downgrade the preferred after the bonus.

Signed up for the CSR in Jan 2017, received the 100k sign up bonus in Mar 2017 and downgraded the card to a Freedom in 2019.

Am I good to go for the new CSP sign up bonus?

Does it make sense to contact Chase and ask them to confirm if I qualify for the sign up bonus?

You can't open any new sapphire card if you currently have any open sapphire card.

It's more than 48 months since you got your signup bonus so you're good to go.

Thanks.
Also, I saw somewhere that I have to wait 30 days after canceling/downgrading a sapphire card before signing up to get this bonus? Do you know why?

You just shop at a grocery store and you'll get the credit. I got credited after shopping at Walmart.

It probably has been answered already. I applied in the branch but the online portal only shows 80 k points at this moment. Will additional 20K points be added once I reach 4 K spending?

Thanks.
