I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

I think you are the only person who product changed a no-fee card to a Sapphire while already having another Sapphire card. Thanks for sharing.

Well, I just did it. I now have prefer and reserve cards. I do have a high limit, not sure if that made the difference.

You won't be allowed to have a product change of your CSP within the first year. In general you will get a full refund of the annual fee within 30 days after the fee is posted when you downgrade/product change/cancel the card after a year. You will retain your points as long as the card you downgrade to is within the Ultimate Rewards family.

because of the ongoing pandemic, i'm not really able to travel. is there another way to downgrade to the freedom limited card so i won't get charged the annual $95 fee again(Oct 10th will be first year with CSP) without losing my reward points?

Because with the CSR you can get 1.5x redemption value on PYB categories. Once you product change your CSR, you can no longer enjoy the same redemption value although you are able to retain your points.
Got it, thanks for sharing. One tip for those with a spouse/household member with a CSR... you can also transfer all of your points over to them as well. Need to call Chase to set that up.

First, check another member's post regarding your eligibility here.

If your last Sapphire bonus was received more than 48 months ago and you have not violated the Chase 5/24 rule, you are eligible again to apply for CSP and get the 100K sign-up bonus. The best approach for you is as followed.

1. Check any purchases in the past 90 days on your CSR categorized as grocery, home improvement, restaurant (including takeout), charity, and Lyft? If you do, then use Chase Pay Yourself Back option to get statement credit with 1.5x redemption value.

2. Use up all the other perks of CSR.

3. Transfer the UR points of the CSR to another Freedom account.

4. Call Chase to downgrade your CSR to another no-fee card. Keep in mind you are allowed to have more than one Freedom card. You can also request a prorated refund of the annual fee of the CSR.

5. Once the downgrade is complete, which usually takes 5 to 7 days, go to a local branch to sign up your CSP and have the $95 annual fee waived for the first year. If you know anyone or family member who has CSP, you can apply through his referral link and he will get 20K points as referral bonus once you are approved. You can only pick either option, not both.

6. Once you activate your CSP, you can transfer the UR points back from the Freedom account anytime, take advantage of PYB option but with 1.25x redemption value for CSP. The PYB option will end 09/30/21.

Sorry one other question -- when do you know once the downgrade is complete and you can apply for the CSP? Is there a way to check online, before heading into a local branch?

Product change usually takes 5 to 7 days, but apparently Chase is now taking a long time to complete the process. Recent reports from other members said it now takes 1 to 2 weeks. Keep in mind that the new card showing up on your Chase account online doesn't necessarily mean you have cleared the old Sapphire card on Chase system.

You may schedule a phone meeting [chase.com] with your local branch, have your banker check your profile over the phone whether you are eligible to sign up the CSP before heading down to the branch.

You can also sign in you Chase account. On the upper left, click Main Menu, then Credit Cards. See if the CSP is an option for you.

Thanks for all the knowledge you've been dropping here! Fingers crossed this promo lasts for 1-2 more weeks then... just downgraded my wife's CSR to the CFU.

Do you know if my current balance will accrue points based off the CSR (that I just downgraded from) or will they base it off the CFU?

Perhaps I should have paid off my balance while it was CSR before downgrading?

You can go to your Ultimate Rewards account and check the points earned next to the transactions.

Got it. Didn't realize the points were accrued at the time of transaction vs. end of month when the statement is generated/paid. Thanks!

Yes, I was able to do it over the phone. They made it clear that by doing a product change, I would not qualify for the sign in bonus. What I wanted is the benefits of the reserve and use all my 100K points from the prefer card with the 1.5X benefit.

That's fine. A one time $95 annual fee when i first got the card last year is already done. I just didn't want to get charged again during this 2nd year. I guess i have another 30 days after October 15th to cancel in order to get refund for 2nd year with what you said and will downgrade CSP to Freedom Unlimited since i already have the Flex card.Thanks.

...
You have a bit longer than that.

The annual fee is charged on the 1st day of the month following your anniversary date. In your case, your anniversary date will be October 10, 2021. If you request a product change after that date and the request is approved before November 1, no annual fee would be generated.

If you wait too long, you would be charged the annual fee on November 1, 2021. You have up to 30 days of being charged the annual fee in order to have it reversed. Thereafter, any refund of the annual fee would be determined on a pro-rata basis.

These 100k points if I use to cover travel purchases AFTER the fact will only be worth $1000 correct?

Whereas if I book my travel through Chase UR then they will be worth $1250 right?

Correct. And even more value than $1250 if you transfer to airline partners for miles.
