I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

After getting this card I'm finding that for the ultimate rewards to truly be valuable (as in worth more than 1.25 or 1.5 cents), you need to redeem for international air travel by transferring to partner airlines. Redeeming for domestic travel isn't worth it because the points only end up worth 1.25 or 1.5. Based off of that, I believe the citi double cash card has higher redemption value long-term for domestic travel at 2% cash back? Anyone agree or disagree with my comments?

Based on the past DPs, the wait time for the completion of a product change is way more than 2 days. The average wait time is 10 to 14 days for in-branch application and 7 to 10 days for online. You may call the number on the back of your CSR card, which is the dedicated line for Sapphire cards, to inquire whether they are still showing your CSR on the system.

Quote from r_orange :
hello - does anyone have any input on this question? downgraded CSR on thursday and sapphire cards appeared under "Open an account" 2 days later (saturday). should i pull the trigger and apply now or wait a couple of more days?
thank you!

Called branch last Wednesday to confirm whether CSR was still showing in my account. Banker said it's not there anymore so I made an appt for branch application last Friday. Instantly approved on the spot.

So for me, it took 3 weeks after PC from CSR to flex.
Congratulations! Not sure why your account history took so long to clear, took nearly twice as long as most others.

Neither agree nor disagree. There are times when it is convenient to redeem travel or convert to cash at a 1.25 cents per point. Not everyone's needs are the same.

Disagree. Citi 2% cash back does not beat 5x points on travel booked through the Chase Travel portal. Besides, there are domestic options (credit to Rapidfire94) that are much more lucrative.

P.S. The Citi Double Cash card does play an important role in one's credit card portfolio, just not in the travel category.

Any good avenues for manufactured spending? $4K in 3 months seem like a stretch for me right now, but don't want to miss out on this excellent offer..

Pretty much all the rewards programs by the banks are pretty situational based on needs. For the long term and not just sign up bonuses, everyone has to work out their own spending habits and preferred travel (if any), as there's no one size fits all.

Chase URs are good for people who can accumulate them via travel, dining, etc. For spending them, it's good for people who travel and use their lucrative transfer partners (e.g. high end Hyatt, people with SW companion pass, United).

Citi has some situational cases. Double Cash/Thank You is good for people with a lot of "other" spending that isn't in any of the recognized categories and with those TY points, generally Avianca is good with its various partners (sometimes below United rates). So while a Thank You point is generally worth slightly less, the extra half percent over Freedom Unlimited 1.5% earnings could work out for some people that have that particular use case since 20k Avianca LifeMiles could be worth more to some people than 15k URs.

i've had the chase ink bold for a decade now. the point system is more or less the same. 1.25x point value on chase's travel site, bonus earning potential (5x at telecoms, office supplies, etc). i was able to get non stop, direct flights from NJ to Tokyo for only 50K points per ticket by transferring them to united. at the time, those tickets were selling for $1100 each at expedia/kayak/etc. also, many of the points i used on this flight were earned at 2x-5x points per dollar. this effectively made the point values 3x on average.

it's a great card i think many of you who are just trying to churn will end up keeping the card

Can points be redeemed for any airline? Or do you have to use the airlines that they partner with? I can't find that info, but maybe I'm overthinking it

Chase Ultimate Reward points can be used two ways for flights.

First way: Transfer to travel partner at 1:1 ratio. There are 11 partners (British Airways, Flying Blue, Jet Blue, Emirates, Singapore Air, Air Canada, Southwest, United, Virgin Atlantic, Aer lingus, and Iberia). One ultimate reward point transfer into one partner point. Most of the time, this is the most point efficient way to redeem your points. However, you have limitations of redeeming points limited by the partner. You can be subjected to blackout dates and limited availability.

Second way: Redeem points directly at Ultimate Chase Rewards travel portal. You can use the portal site like how you can use other travel aggregator sites like Expedia or Travelocity. The prices at the Chase portal are identical to those sites most of the time. Then you can redeem the Chase Ultimate Reward Points directly, 1 point for 1.25 cents value. This way is way more flexible since you don't have blackout dates and you aren't limited to the 11 partner airlines, but you may not get the best value out of your points.

The other person with the link has my comment asking the same question and the response is great, I reached my $4k requirement and got the 100k already.

I pre-paid my phone bill (I'm like 7 months paid off), bought some Amazon gift cards, when out with friends we usually split/share expenses but I would pay full with my card and get the split later (restaurant spending is also great because it's one of 25% extra PYB category) and also did grocery shopping for the family and got compensated in cash. Overall I won't lie I did spend more than I would usually spend in a 3 month period but not enough to wash away the $1k+ in signup bonus.

If the average Joe gets 20K bonus points per referral (worth, say, $200), I wonder how much the OP or SlickDeals (not sure who profits in this case) makes on the deal link that is connected to the opening post?

If they got $200 for each person that subsequently signed up for a new CSP card, WOW! 600+ TU might translate to 1,200 sign-ups ==> 1200 x $200 = $240,000.

Just wondering. Blink

I was doing that math too, these card signups must be the most profitable for them, and it looks like a mod is assigned to support each thread. You'd think SD is getting more than $200 per signup so they're getting their money for sure, but hey the platform helps people save money, so they gotta make their money too.

I just signed up in the branch (because of your wife, thanks!) and definitely had the first year AF waived, but I didn't hear anything about Groceries. Is that the 3x points for online grocery delivery, or an actual straight up credit?

Thanks!

The $50 grocery credit offer expired in July. A $50 credit for hotels booked through the UR travel portal was added in August.

The 3x points is for dining, including eligible delivery services, takeout and dining out. It is a points award, not a credit.

P.S. Please note that the message you quoted originated in June, when the grocery credit offer was still active.
