Thanks for the great tip. I think I will do it that way, $500 Costco Shop/gift card (which will be as you said 1% cash back, 500 points) this month and then $500 in groceries (too bad Costco isn't included in the grocery category, as that is where I buy most groceries) next month. I have to do it that way as I only got my card this week and there is not enough time to use it for anything besides an online purchase like this gift card. You only get 1% for anything outside their categories, like most online orders such as Amazon, Walmart, etc. I wish online store purchases or wholesale clubs were a category, but I see why they wouldn't do that. Should be 1% cash back if so for the one shop card item from Costco this month and then next month 5% back on the groceries. Then I will be all done with the spend $1000 in the first 90 days to get $300 back.
If you plan to spend $500 at Costco this month and since it is not in one of the categories that pay 5% then you don't need to wait and can spend $500 in groceries this month as well. You can expect to get to get 3000 (500 Costco and 2500 groceries) point and then your $300 bonus within one or two billing cycles. Or just do as you plan to spend $500 in October. Good luck!
Some sites show 670 or higher, and others 700+ for this card for the FICO score. I know that Citi specifically uses Experian to run the credit check on this card, so maybe it is best to confirm with Experian what your score is (should be able to logon to their website).
When I got my bonus at the branch, the banker told me there was no end date she was aware of. My two Citibank branches had brochures on display about the $300 bonus in branch only.
It would hurt to go to branch and check with them.

Just want to clarify, the $500 cap for the 5% back in highest spent category is for each Billing Cycle and not by calendar month unless your billing cycle is at the end of each month. My billing cycle ends the 2nd day of each month. You can log into Citibank portal and it will display to you how much you have spent and which is the highest spent category.
Yes, as long as you're eligible, you can apply for this one. Having another citi card doesn't affect it.
Just apply for it. Citibank is not like some other banks where you can have a maximum of 2 cards with them. I have more than 2 cards with Citibank including this one. Go to the branch to apply and get $300 bonus instead of $200 online.
My Experian score is 779 but I was turned down because of three new credit cards and a personal loan in the last 7 months.
I've been with Citi for 25 years but they still wouldn't approve it. I'll probably go for a Wells Fargo card, they keep sending me pre-approval letters in the mail.

The timer starts on the day of your approval for you to spend the $750/$1000.

Thanks. Do you remember what state the letter came from?
