Care to share how did you get "a chase sapphire preferred with a $1250 bonus"? Currently it's 60k points and I heard there was 80k before, not $1250 though.
it was 100,000 points almost exactly a year ago now (when this was posted). valued at 1.25x for preferred and 1.5x for reserve
Does anyone know if someone can switch their current Citi card to this type? Im not worried about the bonus but I think it does better overall than my Citi Rewards+.
I called and changed mine.It takes almost two months to get in effect. They kept the same card number.
I need a new checking that provides cash back incentive that doesn't require keeping a large balance. Any recommendations? Have the citi card but their checking offers require a 15k deposit
I'm not sure why folks are debating here so much about this card when it is basically Citi version of Chase Freedom which I own one myself. The card was exciting at first but eventually becomes useless because no one is watching which catalog the card is in this month or that month. No one has time for that. Occasionally you may make some purchases that match the rotation and that's about it. Let be honest and say you want to get that $200 bonus and then the card will collect dust in your draw which is perfectly fine.
I prefer flat 2% or 3% cash back because I can use it regularly. I have BoA Customized Cash with online shopping for 3% and PenFed for 2% for everything else. Two cards cover most of generic purchases. Plain and simple.
I use Citi custom cash card (5%) to buy food/groceries, Wells Fargo active cash card (2%) for everything else.

So far I've found a couple of places that do $400 cash back. Did US Bank a couple of months ago. Required $5k in direct deposit in 2 months. Account fees waived of you average $1500 balance or $1k in direct deposits per month.
I know this post is a year old, but I wanted to add that I have several cards that consider Costco gas pumps as "gas" purchases. Purchases inside the store are coded differently.
Can you point me to the $500 and $1000 bonus cards; without annual fees. Thanks.
They best you can realistically do is to get a $500 bonus card that waives the fee for a year (US Bank Connect?). Then (possibly) you can downgrade the card when the year is out.
Some of these cards do provide good value for $95 a year.
