I have both the new and old, scroll wheel performs fine and similar on both. Sounds like a defect.
The industry would call it a "remaster."
I had the original Mx518 and can't remember any downsides to it, but this new one I threw out after a month. The scroll wheel is utter trash, you can't even rely on it to accurately scroll when browsing the web. Within the first week I noticed that when scrolling to the next tactile bump, it sometimes didn't actually register until I wiggled the wheel. I thought maybe it needed to be worn in, but it just got worse. And of course that makes it completely unreliable with gaming, which is its advertised purpose.

well worth it, i used the g400s for years and got this newer g mx518. Sensor is noticeably better, no more weird spin outs and a much lower lift off distance. The top 3 dpi buttons have a more tactile click feel, much better than the old ones that stopped working for me unless you pressed really hard.

Only drawback to some is the super glossy top coat.
Still a great shape

Most often a double clicking sensor is caused by the tiny metal 'spring' inside the plastic sensor assembly being worn out..instead of springing back to neutral, it'll double tap in on position. You pop the top of the sensor off, carefully remove the 'spring' piece (because it can fly off somewhere), and 're-bend' it, which restores its springiness. Reassemble and the sensor won't double click anymore. Have done this twice to G400, works on any omron switch. Youtube has videos.
Thanks.

Can you explain a bit more? I have a few Logitech mice with double-clicking issue that I otherwise like for their ergonomics. I just didn't want to get into soldering replacement switches.

Search ebay for these replacement cables. There are lots. Then lookup youtube for guides. NO soldering required - just remove and replace replug with new cable. Just Cable management inside the mouse and screwing it back together.
