It's 2021 and theyre still selling 2016 *stats (for mem/storage). Dont buy if you want to use modern apps.
I got a better prepaid phone LG on sale in 2016 for ~$40 (and it wasnt enough, was forced to upgrade to 4GB RAM to use modern apps at the same time).
Look for red flags: 3GB and under was not enough RAM in 2018 because of forced google bloatware (while you try to run your apps that take a lot).
32 GB storage - not enough because of google forced updates and they dont let you use the last 400 MB.
Android 10 = too much google politics BS. It wont let you install your own file manager and install apps from it. They force you to use google or approved file managers (not an option for people who use discontinued apps that google delists).
Octa core is the only thing good, never get quad or below for modern apps.
If youre just getting this for calls, it may be enough. But youre still getting cheated with 2016 stats and corporate greed. There is no reason good for the consumer that they are still putting only 32GB and 3GB RAM in phones.
3Gb is not a red flag. It's plenty of ram for your average user. My Moto G7 Power has 3gb of ram and I had no problem with it at all, I gave it to my niece to replace her broken Pixel 3a-XL and she's been using it for months. It's snappy and performs well. Again for the average user who doesn't live on their phone or download 100 third-party apps 32 gb of storage is fine as well, Cloud storage is the thing now anyway. Saying "never get quad or below for modern apps" is just silly. Apps have gotten more efficient not less. There are million of smartphones out there today with these specs going strong.
Not necessarily. Cricket is owned by AT&T. I have seen in the past that Cricket pre-paid phones could be used on the regular AT&T network as a post-paid phone. Years ago, a relative of mine on the AT&T network lost his phone and temporarily replaced it with a Cricket phone until he could reimbursed by his insurance company.

agreed. i came from a samsung s6 and the moto g play is a solid phone.
Do I have to activate it? I have three phones on cricket, but only want this phone in use for wifi only for my littlest one at home, or for cheap downloadable games she can play in the car.

yeah... just dont put in a sim.
all you need to do is log in with a google account and just use the phone as a mini tablet.
make sure you delete all the cricket bloatware and spyware.

Yes it can be used wifi only. I bought one for my son this morning and set it up. Target is selling them through At&t prepaid for $49.99. Hes playing Roblox at the moment and its running good on it. I didnt have to activate it at all, just the initial setup of logging into wifi and setting up google play and thats it.
coming from a 6 year old moto g4, this thing is sweet. its hard to believe you can get a decent phone for under $50 OTD. i got the g4 for $45 at walmart clearance way back, and this thing was sticker price
I guess if you want to play fancy games this isn't for you, or really care about super nice photos from a phone, but if you are a regular person doing regular things, like 98% of people, this seems to work just fine. paying $900 for a phone makes no sense to me unless you just have stupid disposable income and have already maxed out all your retirement/investment accounts.
I am on day 3 of my battery and still have 20% left, no lag with anything yet, thought having the 720p screen would be noticeable but its not to me. speaker is louder then the moto g4, wifi calling works well, fingerprint sensor works decent enough, very happy - and if I get a solid 2 years out of it thats money in the bank!
Is this Moto G Play an upgrade or downgrade compared to my current Moto G7 that I got from Google Fi 1.5 years ago?
Edit/update: G7 has slightly better processor, so this is a downgrade. And if you have the 4gb/64gb G7, then the G Play is definitely a downgrade. I have two G7 Supra on Cricket (same as G7 Power) and am just waiting for a good price on a Moto G series 5G phone to upgrade the family.

Yeah, I love the G7 but the battery is in decline. Got it for a song from Google for $100. Wish it has a drop in battery replacement. Will wait and see until the end of year if there are any deals in the neighborhood of $100. If not, Im going to try to replace the battery myself to get another year out of it or until 5G drops to $100. That's my self imposed limit.

yeah it is a solid phone i get over 10 hours of screen on time.
the snapdragon 460 is a solid soc which is what makes this phone.
This is a nice enough value phone, but wifi slowness while Bluetooth is on is disappointing. Whether 2.4 or 5ghz speed sucks unless BT off. Is this normal?

Purchased Cricket Moto E5 , used Cricket service on a different device, never activated Moto device purchased when opened accat.
a year later, moved to mint.
trying to activate mint on cricket moto e5 Cruise, device says locked to cricket
Q
Wouldnt you expect all locked to get auto no longer locked after sitting in drawer for a year +?
2. would cricket or ATT offer a free unlock code because account was paying for a year plus?
3. would it work after moved account and no longer client?
Thank you
