True and a bummer; I feel they might have done it to stop fraud.

Trying to trade in my old kindle oasis 2 - Amazon tells that it will give me $5 for it! Before it showed - up to $75. Feels scammy.

No they'll probably give you $75, but after they check. There is an option to get your kindle back, if they don't give you $75. But the point is that you can't buy a new one with 20% off, until they check your old one.

I wish I had thought about the delay in trade in. Last time I did it the discount was instant. I was thinking about getting the Oasis but it is pretty expensive at MSRP.

Yes, very expensive and...coming from a daily user of it...not worth it.
It's nice, don't get me wrong. The smooth face, adaptive lighting, higher resolution and fairly quick page turning is all nice.
But once/if you put a cover on it, it loses all of its form factor benefit, and I miss the more recent Paperwhites with the flat screen face.
Don't get me wrong, I don't regret having it, and I paid $110 after trade-in a couple years back. But it's not the huge upgrade I was hoping for, and would have been just as happy continuing to rock out my regular Paperwhite. Hindsight 20/20.

It is a bummer - when I bought my Kindle Oasis 2 when it was first available, I traded in my old Kindle Keyboard instantly ($250*0.8-$5=$195). So I was hopping to get new kindle oasis for ~$80 using my old kindle oasis a trade in.
Looks like with trading in Kindle Oasis 2 I'll get better price than buying today for $185
$250*0.2-75 = $125
I wonder will Amazon do a price match/adjustment once they'll accept my Kindle Oasis 2 trade in?
Or I'll wait for Black Friday and will time sending Oasis 2 for trade-in - to assessment results available to use credit for buying new Oasis...

I'm totally with you on this.
I currently has Kindle Oasis 2 and battery started to give up. Battery holds only for about 2-4 days of light reading. And unlike Kindle Paperwhite - it is close to impossible to change battery, without breaking the screen - everything is glued.
I definitely won't pay full $250 for new Oasis - so far it has the same functionality as old one - only better light, but maybe I'd pay ~$100 with trade in.

I actually testing Kobo Forma ($250) and Kobo Libra ($150). I really like functionality and features they provide - especially Pocket integration, devices are more lightweight and easier to hold. The killer feature of Kobo - no ads - so when I open the case it wakes Kobo right away, no need to swipe.
The only two things t I really miss from Oasis
1) Kobo is slow and less responsible, Oasis 2 feels snappier when changing the pages and reaction on menu
2) Kobo doesn't support syncing position between devices in books uploaded by user - unlike Kindle saves and syncs position for mobi files I'm sending via email. I think Kobo supports sync only for ebooks purchased from their store, but most of the ebooks I read I upload manually. With Kobo I still can upload the books - via dropbox (Forma supports this out of the box, Libra - via KoboCloud script https://github.com/fsantini/KoboCloud).

After trying Kobo's - I'm too spoiled to buy Kindle Oasis 2021 but I'm returning Kobo - it is too slow and buttons are so hard to press. I guess I should stick to old Oasis 2 until Amazon or Kobo come up with new devices.
If only there will be device that will be cross between Kindle Oasis and Kobo Forma - I'd happily pay $250 for it. But looks like neither Amazon Kindle nor Kobo Forma have any updated devices coming...

PS I'll be testing new Kobo Elipsa 10" note taking eink tablet - but it is large device falling into completely different category.

I feel the same. It is nice, but absolutely not worth the cost difference. The screen is a little larger, and it has a light which changes temperature (big whoop) but the battery does not last as long as the other models so it is at best a mixed bag.

If they wanted to justify the price they should have had USB C and wireless charging, along with the bigger screen and a battery that lasts at least the same as the other models.

I don't regret buying mine, but if I did not already have one, and I was buying from scratch, I would recommend the paperwhite.

Is the current generation worth the extra cost or would even the last (or 8th) gen still be an upgrade from a PaperWhite?

Thanks! I needed this review from an avid user.

Could you please confirm how do the lines and text fit on Oasis? Only charm for me is how the text looks more book like on Oasis.

Appreciate if you could give your opinion on text fit
