I know a lot of people talk smack about the S, but man, I love mine, I'm not one to pixel count, so as long as the game I'm playing is 1080p, I'm fine, looks great on my LG CX, especially when the games are still kicking at 60fps or better.
Also travels well, I'm able to throw it in my bag next to my laptop when I travel and it's great for hotel downtime.
I have no problem with the S's performance. If that were the only difference, I'd already own one. My problem is the measly storage. 512GB, only 364GB left after OS. When a lot of AAA games run over 100GB, that's gonna fill up real quick. You can remedy this by getting a storage expansion card, but that brings the total cost to more than the Series X.
If you're a very casual gamer who only plays one or two games at a time, the Series S may be a good buy. But I'm pretty casual, don't have a ton of games, and I've been struggling with the 500GB storage limit on my PS4 for a couple years now. It can only be worse with newer games.
Its Costco. They are a warehouse retailer. They have paid members and they purchase in bulk. People pay membership fees for access to prices below MSRP. Those membership fees help pay for things being sold under MSRP.

I've been using it on occasions since February. This is a nice little piece of machine to help you with entertainment on those evenings, when you are free from kids, work. If you are a heavy gamer, then the X series would be better. I am using it on a 27" 2K display and the image is crystal clear. Though it depends on the game itself: Forza Horizon is awesome like 4K, while older games gained support of 2k/4k only in the version for the X. So Series S downloads One S games for some of them.
All in all. worth spending the $300 easily. If you have 4k big TV then go for X, otherwise enjoy your series S.
You can put whatever numbers you want to on paper, for most people they won't tell a difference between an s or an x unless you tell them. I'm telling you it looks and plays the same. If it didn't then the s wouldn't be next gen
I've owned both and X is noticeably better with true 4K. It's just a fact.
I don't buy that. 4K TVs have been around since at least 2013 and can be purchased for around $300 now .... same as the Series S....
As of 2019, 43% of households in the US own a 4K TV. Do you realize that broadcast TV is 1080i or 720p with some sporting events in 4K. Only 6% of PC gamers are gaming in 4K.

I see that you can google and selected the first article you found, kudos. I too can google. 4K TV purchases have increased exponentially since your 2019 report and trending upward as one would expect. Do you also realize that many families have cut the cord and stream their media - Netflix, Hulu, Apple, etc. which produce 4K content? By 2022, 55% of households will have gotten rid of cable. During a survey held in May 2020, 62 percent of respondents stated that they or someone in their household was currently subscribed to a streaming service. Broadband is also more readily available to stream these services in 4K. 6 out of 10 families who own a 4K TV have the bandwidth to stream 4K services. Will you next argue how many families still have DVD players?
What's your point? That they will sell a lot of them; won't argue that. The Series S is cheaper but not better than the Series X. 4K media is better, available, and affordable. Those who want to pursue the future and at reasonable prices can do just that.

Series S is a winner for those want the best bang for the bucks. I have it hooked up to my 720p "32 tv in my bedroom for my downtime and I am NOT complaining. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1,2 FighterZ and Gear of Wars 4 look great to me.
The Series X would be a complete waste of $ for me. I don't want to spend more $ for 4k 120hz tv and then spend more for series X, it just not a Slickdeals in general

Triggered much pal. My point is a lot of people own 1080p TVs and the Series S works for them. I also said broadcasting not streaming. The virus also knocked any of those statistics as those numbers you quoted were surveys and not actual numbers. Supply chain issues have severely impacted 4K TVs as well jobless claims. Yes, many people used their stimmy checks to buy TVs but once again, the supply wasn't there to push 4K over the amount of 1080p TVs in circulation. My original statement was more people have 1080p TVs than 4K in which you disagreed. I have backed up my statement and still feel that the Series S provides a lot of enjoyment to people that won't fully be able to use the Series X. Now by 2023 that might be different but today, the Series S and 1080p are still viable.

So a USB external SSD runs slower than the internal? I use one on my One X and it helped a lot with loading times.
You're right, external usb drives on the Xbox Series X|S will only run Xbox One, Xbox 360, and original Xbox games. You can store X|S games on an external usb drive, but they have to be moved to the internal storage to be played.
The "external" Segate drive you mentioned should not be considered an external usb drive. It's an expansion card and the storage it provides is treated like the internal storage.
Oh man that sucks. Thanks has to be Series X then.

And on 1080p which most Americans are still using….
Will work just as good as what you get on series x. Won't be as good as PC obv but it'll look and play fine.
